Another battery question - juice defender or 2x battery

First off I love this phone!! So many things are great, but my only complaint is the battery. I don't want to have to get the extended battery cause I toss my phone in my front pocket quite a bit.

Anywho, I have had my phone for a few days and I just wanted to reach out to everyone to see if what I'm experiencing is normal. I charged my phone to 100%, while it was on. I unplugged it and within 1 hour of it sitting on my desk and me not touching it, went down to 81%. I know that this phone is powerful and uses quite a bit of juice, but that seems a bit much. 20% in an hour and i didn't even touch it!!

I mean, no email, no text, nothing!!

I've read about 2x battery and juice defender. Are those gimmicky apps or could they help??

BTW i have it at normal power mode and screen brightness at 40%

Does this sound like a defective battery or some other issue??

Go to -settings, -about phone, -battery, -battery use. This will tell you what is using your battery. Also you can tap on the top where it has a line graph on battery level and the amount of time on battery. That take yo to another screen that tell you the signal level of your phone, and when the GPS, Wifi, screen were on, when it was charging, and when the phone was awake. This helps as well, I had a widget (HD widget) pinging my GPS all day and that was draining my battery. These 2 menus helped find that out. Also, I think the 3rd party apps for battery life don't work as well as leaving the phone alone for a week and letting the operating system figure out how you use the phone, and it will optimize power usage.

Also, I think the phone and the battery kind of need to get to know each other a bit. The phone needs to figure out how much to charge the battery, as overcharging lithium battery's really shortens the life. Well, not the overcharging per se, but the heat caused when the battery does not need any more juice, but is still getting it. This sounds like an HTC thing and you can look up bump charging to get around it, but I'm not so sure it's a great idea to do all the time.

Also, if you have WiFi on, with no WiFi, that can be a drain. Same thing for 4G, if you can't get it, turn it off. The extended battery is not bad in the front pocket of your pants either, as long as you wear normal fitting pants.

Some general tips for you, OP.
Toggle background data, GPS, and WiFi off when you're not using them. If you have a weather or news widget, don't bother. They're constantly trying to grab a connection in order to update, as twolastnames brought up.
Automatic sleep mode is your friend. You still get messages and phone calls while your screen is off, but everything else goes into a power saver state until you turn your screen on again. If you don't care much for it, you can turn off automatic brightness and leave it at around 30% or so, it's perfectly visible at that setting.
Lastly, don't bother with Juice Defender or any of that crap.

Your battery life will improve, trust me. Your phone needs time to adjust.

Right now automatic sleep is set from 11-6 by default. So are you suggesting that I set it to all the time?? I'd be fine with that if I still would get calls and texts.

I mainly use the phone for a few calls here and there as well as texting. That's why I was so surprised that th battery was burning up so fast!!

Thanks

After 2.5 hours of light use, my Rezound is at 93%, I think it important to have your Screen go to sleep when not in use. My display is set to automatic brightness, and screen timeout of 45 seconds. My display uses up about 60% of my battery. I am not using any battery saver or task killer apps.

Hello there, heavy user here. My rezound is off the charger at 6 30 am and used to be dead at 4:30 pm. Downloaded juice defender, and I make it to 10:30 11:30 every night now. I set it to aggressive and haven't noticed any performance changes besides my battery lasting alot longer. I have to recommend that app man, works awesome for me.

I've run some tests with automatic sleep mode. You will get calls and texts, there's no need to worry about missing an emergency call or anything else. Plus, the Rezound manual online says the same thing about still receiving calls and texts.
The only things it shuts down seem to be network/data, wifi, GPS, and background data. Plus all apps that are open at the time. When you power on your screen, everything you had on before sleep mode will power back on.
As an example of the benefits of sleep mode, I'll give you this;
Without sleep mode, after a full charge and 7 hours of sleep before work, my charge would go from 99% to 86% (background data on, no 4G or WiFi)
With sleep mode, after a full charge and 7 hours of sleep before work, my Rezound's charge was at 93% with (background data on, no 4G or WiFi)
We're talking about half of the battery power saved when the phone is not in use. In this case, it's 1%. It may not seem like much, but after a full 12 hour day, you're saving about 12-15% charge, which is essentially 1-2 additional hours of moderate use.
Keep in mind, the results seem small because I was already in a power save mode by turning off all of the radios and background data in the first place. If you leave these on all day, then your results will greatly improve.

I've been using Juice Defender for a month or so and think it's awesome. It's probably roughly doubled my battery life on it's "aggressive" setting, and I don't really see any degradation of performance at all, save for a moment waiting for data and WiFi to connect once I unlock. Well worth it.
