Loving my nexus 7, my question is what anti-virus program r u ladies and gentleman running? I was going to get avg just like on my HTC one x. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

NQ mobile booster
It's not a heavy av program but it does scan incoming apks and files, also has a usage tracker so if you have a data limit or hotspot data limit will alert you at a point you set and renews at your monthly refresh,
A nice widget that will show how much ram your using and end processes to free that up

I do not receive money from NQ I just like the product

AV is not needed if you don't install cracked programs outside android market..

if you really want it go with Avast... I use avast not for the anti virus but for call blocking and blocking 3G/Wifi data usage for apps.

I visited a website for a product on my phone with Opera. I shared the link to a friend. He opened it on his computer and Avast blocked it because infected. So... could this be a good reason to have one on your android or is there a better browser or plugin to use that scans sites

While I don't think the risk is huge, there have been a couple incidents even with content in the Play Store. So, to me, there's little to be lost by installing a free or cheap anti-virus app. Personally, I use Lookout on both my tablet and phone. I've been immensely happy with it.

the best anti virus is no anti virus. If you been in the Android game long enough you would know that anti virus is absolutely ridiculous. Anyone that thinks they are necessary or is scared enough to install anti virus on an Android device needs to do their homework.

Almost as unnecessary as a screen protector

What makes you think a screen protector is unnecessary, or less necessary than anti-virus at any rate? I've already got a scratch on my screen and I've been careful (though clearly not careful enough) with it.

Using an AV program is just going to slow down your tablet and use up resources. Don't get one, delete avg off of your phone, and use common sense! Just don't download any files off of the internet that you don't know what they are. 99.9% of the apps in GP will be safe also so you're safe. There really is no need for any antivirus program, especially if you're paying for one.

I've never scratched a glass screened gadget. U aren't as careful as u seem to think. :-)

Good for you. That you haven't scratched a glass screened gadget doesn't invalidate my point. The screen on the Nexus 7 isn't Gorilla Glass and can be scratched, the scratch on mine is minor and barely noticeable, but proves to me the screen can be scratched, and therefore a screen protector will actually be useful for some.

I use AVG, mainly because I do side-load some apps (Flash, Dolphin 8.5.1, etc.) and I like that it scans any downloaded files. I've seen no slowdowns, etc., because of the install, and whilst we may not be targeted yet, our time is coming. People used to say the same things about Macs, but that's been proven to not be the case. It's just a matter of "target size" for virus creators, and we're becoming a really large target.

Just my two cents.

I use AVG and it seems to work well. For me it's something I want because I get apps etc from more than 1 source.
