I never said there was...my only point was that you should never allow anti-virus apps to provide a false sense of security or preclude you from using safe practices and common sense. I agree with your statement, and it certainly was not my intent to "decry the value of AV programs", however I do feel that is it just an important for people to have a realistic understanding of the level of protection AV programs provide."
I think we're both saying and have said the same thing.
What I find scary though is that when professionals and experienced users talk about this issue, they do so with a nuanced perspective that non-professionals and novices do not understand. It can lead to the wrong conclusion. I've just run into too many people these days who have heard such comments out of context --oh, well, the anti virus doesn't really protect you anyway---and assume it's ok to forego it. It's definitely not ok.
Not that I'm accusing you of it, since your post was IN FACT nicely nuanced (thanks!), but I think professionals talking about the inadequacy of av programs too often need reminding that some may misinterpret what they're actually saying; balance is necessary on both sides of the issue.
