Take a look at "Lookout" works well on it's own.

I use Lookout on my S4 but also like Avast for mobile and use that on my Nexus 7. Lookout has some nice features like snapping a picture (and sending it to your email) anyone who attempts to unlock your phone 5 times unsuccessfully. Also has a remote wiping feature as well as it sends out a location when battery gets low in case you lost your phone and it was not charged.

Or just read the countless threads on the subject. Look out is the best, but none is needed. Those companies feed on your fear. Just like those Popup that say your Android is running slow.

What I can say is that some companies add spyware in their applications even in the playstore.

I have eset to also prevent phishing.

Well, there is probably some truth to that for the big companies (Norton/Symantec, McAfee, Kapersky, etc) but in general that's a very naive way of thinking - especially when the apps we've recommended are the free ones (they don't benefit from false positives). It sounds something like what I used to hear from Apple/Mac users and then what I heard (and still hear) from Firefox users ... that they were not vulnerable to malware or exploits. Fact is, it all comes down to market share and impact. Apple/Mac computers were left alone for the most part due to their limited use in business. Now that they have increased usage in business and the impact is higher, guess what? They have an increase in viruses and exploits to their "secure" systems.

Android has not been without its share of exploits and malware. And given the market share Android has, I don't think that's going to decrease any time soon either. Much better to be safe than find out the hard way that there was a valid reason to have that free antivirus app.

Re: antivirus appsantivirus apps

I've had some luck with both the antivirus apps from big companies like Avast - but also free apps from smaller developers, like Secure AntiVirus for Android! That one's in the Google Play store. You can see it here: www.demandapps.net/info.php
