So I was wondering what is everyone's take on using Antivirus on there s3! Which one do you use, and which one do you prefer. I use trust go right now.... Please comment back! THANKS!

Wife's S3... She uses none... Viruses do exist but if you stick to downloading from reputable places like Google Play Store, Amazon, Get Jar & Slide Me you should stay clear of viruses.

Again just like on your home computer you have to download and install/run an executable file or (apk) in Android's case to infect your device. Stay away from shady places and you should be fine.

Kaspersky Mobile Security. It also has anti - theft features as well. When you download or update apps, they are scanned for malware. As smartphones become more like small laptops, I feel better having it. Better safe than sorry.

I use Avast, have it on my GS3 non-rooted, and GS2 with full root. No problems, no issues here.

i wanted to use avast, but it wont let me set it up because its asking for a foreign phone number in case i lose my phone. Is there anyway around that????

I used Lookout for years without issue, and it gets high marks by most users. As stated above, if you don't sideload apps from third parties, chances are slim you will encounter malware. However, there have been occurrences in the Play Store where malicious apps were available temporarily, until Google discovered and removed them.
Understand that malicious apps usually aren't destructive like computer viruses, i.e., deleting everything on your hard drive. The malware usually installs hidden software that tracks you, makes calls, or sends texts without your knowledge. Ironically, if you read the permissions of apps before installing them, some "legitimate" apps can do this too. The reason they aren't flagged as malware is because they're admitting they do it, and you are essentially giving them permission to do so.

I tun AVG Antivirus on my computer and all the cell phones in the family. Never an issue

Are you rooted? The phone number issue I have in place on my rooted GS2, but also remember to add + in front of a phone number. For instance...+(999)452-5467 without it, it didnt let me when I set it up.

Well not an issue but it did ask for number in case of loss or theft.

Thank you! I went back an added a + to my phone number and it loaded up and worked!!! Thank you for your help! I prefer to use avast! Has more features than lookout!

I've always used Lookout and never had any problems. I read just recently that a well known entity in the mobile space which I don't recall the name of recently partnered with Lookout for mobile security and Lookout always gets high reviews from places like PC Magazine and such. I would think any of the well known names provide good security. But then again my 1 and a half year old computer came with McAfee and after I read reviews of various brands I removed it and installed Norton because McAfee always ranked at the bottom. Funny thing is McAfee is owned by Intel. As another poster mentioned, there have been instances of apps from the Play Store having malware so I'd never not use an anti-virus program on my phone just because I wasn't sideloading.
