Any advice for weening off of apple?

You can still use iTunes for music. I buy it from my laptop, and my BlackBerry desktop software syncs the music to my device via WiFi. I'm sure you can do the same for Android too.

Android definitely isn't as stable as iOS. I've been frequently frustrated by software incompatibility (hey Square Enix, I don't mind paying your ridiculous prices but come on now, why can't my flagship devices play your games?) What you sacrifice in stability you make up for with more customization and a larger software library. To me it is a fair tradeoff.

I completely disagree with the notion that android is more unstable. In fact I feel the exact opposite. One look through Apple forums and you will see how upgrades trashed stability. I have experienced that myself on my iPad. It's awful. Even worse is I recently tried an iPad air right there in an Apple Store and had apps crash on me. Meanwhile I very seldom see a crash on my Moto X. I wish I had that kind of stability on my iPad.

IOS used to be stable and one of the best if not the best os there was. Past tense now and Android is proving its worth and providing the consumer with choice I mean there is just the obvious names Samsung, Motorola, Lg,HTC, oppo, now you have Acer and others that are stepping things up.

So yes Apple was great and still is in some respects however if you don't want to be shackled then Android is the only option.

I would suggest you keep your iPad if you want to hold onto them app purchases. and go out as soon as possible and get a shiny new Android and enjoy.

We'll, the way my finances are going right now it'll be a bit before I have the money for, say, a nexus 5. Unless I sold the iPhone now, but then I'd be without a phone while that process happens.

Instead of relying solely on apple stuff. Use cross platform app and software. Like Evernote for notes, drop box or box for storage. Use a cross platform music service too, like Spotify. That way for future reference, if you ever want to switch mobile OS's its very painless. Especially since most of the apps I just mentioned can be had on all other OS's, whatever phone you want to get you can access most of your stuff you have.
