Any Atrix Regrets?

I've been playing with this thing for the past couple of hours. I'm posting this using the multimedia dock in webtop mode connected to the HDMI input of a TV and a usb keyboard and mouse connected to the dock. It would be nice if it had HDMI mirroring, but otherwise no complaints so far.

just one question. you can still have all the functioning of the hdmi dock with the cable but the dock just makes it so u can plug in a keyboard and mouse?

Well is ADW Launcher or Launcher Pro going to work on the Atrix without rooting? If I posted question in wrong place please direct. Thanks.

I'm using Launcher Pro with it and it runs smooth even using the scrolling 3d in the applications.

Launcher pro works excellent, I've had it installed since yesterday there hasn't been any lag when scrolling homescreens. It's as if it came already installed in the atrix ui. Also no forced closes either.

I was given options for Entertainment Center mode or Webtop mode when using the HD multimedia dock connected with the tv and usb keyboard and usb mouse. When I was connected directly to the tv with the hdmi cable, I was only given the Entertainment center option.

I think you must have some other input when using Webtop mode because the phone screen just displays a clock and didn't respond to any touching while in Webtop mode. So I wonder if one could go into Webtop mode with just the hdmi cable and a bluetooth keyboard and mouse. There is an icon for the app on the phone in the apps list. But it won't launch the Webtop mode on the screen when only connected to a tv via a HDMI cable.

I spent quite bit of time today with the phone and the only quibble I have is the screen. The Atrix was right next to the Inspire then the Galaxy S. IMHO the Galaxy S blows the Atrix screen away. The Inspire screen *seems* so much larger. I must say the Atrix screen seems subdued in brightness/contrast to the Inspire and the colors aren't as vivid as on the Galaxy S. I'm not a display expert, I made a first hand evaluation of the Atrix display. I have no problem with the display resolution, no pixellation noted, and everything was clear and crisp in the browser and text. I never watch video on my phones so I only evaluated the screen based on static images. Also, I made sure the brightness wasn't way low on the Atrix during my evaluation.

Still the sales guy and I agreed that if the three phones weren't side by side I don't think I would have noticed anything about the screen.

I checked and I don't have that option. Thanks for the suggestion.

Then maybe you should have your eyes rechecked. I see it and that's what matters to me. You don't and that's fine for you, but i don't care about what you do or don't see. You didn't pay for my phone... I did. You also didn't pay for everyone else's phone. So if you don't like their opinions then move along. The Iphone 4 has the best screen out of any smartphone out right now. What I said was the mytouch 4g (think it's a super LCD screen) is much better than the atrix screen.
I'm coming from an Iphone 3g, so obviously the atrix blows my old phone out of the water in performance. That said, certain features on the iphone I prefer. Albeit they are small ones and for the most part probably insignificant to the majority of people, but I didn't buy a phone to please others. It's nice to see android has the same crazy fanboys that apple does.

You don't "replace" motoblur. You put another launcher ON TOP OFF motoblur. It's still there, taking up resources. Some people don't like that and some do. I personally wouldn't care as long as it has no impact on my battery or performance, but I'm not everyone.

Regardless my wife and I will probably be taking our atrix phones back and either sticking with our slow iphone 3g's or getting iphone 4's.
To those that enjoy the phone... congrats! It's speedy and I'm sure it will last a while. :)

First of all...what the hell would I be a fanboy to? I still own an iPhone 4 (which easily has the best screen on a mobile device up to this point), and I have access to about 3 other new smartphones (one of which is a Galaxy S). I have no reason to defend my purchase since I own the alternatives and could easily just return the Atrix and use those...I'm defending one of the highest-quality screens I've seen in a long time because many of the people coming into these threads are thinking about buying an Atrix and getting dissuaded from doing so by a few posters on the forum.

If you would have actually read my post (with those super eyes of yours) you'd have seen that I never said it *replaced* Motoblur...in fact I even said specifically that Motoblur is still running, but the amount of resources it uses is inconsequential. 24Mb of RAM and 0% cpu constantly (since it freezes the Motoblur "app" in memory). People may have a problem with that, but seeing as 24Mb of 1Gb of RAM is 0.24% and it won't affect anything...makes those opinions invalid.

Speaking of invalid opinions. You saying "That plane is made of cheese" might be your opinion...but that doesn't mean it's acceptable or rational as an opinion. I have the Atrix right next to my iPhone4, an iPhone 3GS, and a Captivate...and with each playing the same video (720p file encoded in Handbrake at 1,400kbps bitrate FFmpeg MP4) the difference is almost not noticeable at all. Yes, it can be seen...but the only device of the 4 that beats it is the iPhone 4...and barely. The higher amount of detail in the iPhone4 and Atrix blows away the competition.

Oh, and fonts are *COMPLETELY* smooth...there's no fuzziness or haze around anything. If you're seeing hazy fonts...you should probably get your Atrix replaced.

Have you seen the Galaxy S screen? It stops ANY smartphone's screen, and if some ****** says the epic... its the same screen

Having used a Galaxy S for about 4 hours one day I can say it has a nice screen...but pales in comparison to the iPhone 4 screen. Considering the Atrix comes *pretty* close in quality to the iPhone 4 screen that would, by my rudimentary math ability, mean the Atrix has a better screen than the Galaxy S (in my opinion). I haven't use them next to each other but I'm going to.

Any one having a problem with yahoo email? I cant get that email imported into my phone but my hotmail is.. my password is correct and email is word for word. I logged onto yahoo from my laptop and it worked so my pass isn't messed up.

The other thing I'm upset about is I cant do custom notification tones. Like I cant make my music or downloaded "droid" sound be set for text messages, which i certainly could do for my POS backflip

Err...you can? Put them in "sdcard/media/audio/notifications" and it'll pop up in the list for alarms and notification sounds.

And Sirpoozalot: I'm pretty sure if nobody *told* you it was a Pentile screen you wouldn't even know. The reason you say the colors pop more on the Galaxy S is because Super OLED has a higher saturation rating, on average. It doesn't mean there's more detail...actually quite the opposite. There's a reason most professional photographers and artists don't like OLED displays...they're not true to colors. It might look nice for the average person, but the colors aren't true.

Oh, and the screen on the Galaxy S has around 384,000 pixels (averaging 96,000ppi - pixels per inch). The screen on the Atrix has over 518,000 (averaging 129,600ppi). If your eyesight is good enough to be able to tell it's a Pentile screen...then it would also be good enough to see each individual pixel of the Galaxy S. If your eyesight were that strong there would be no display on Earth that you'd find acceptable, since those kinds of pixels densities are at the *very* end of the spectrum.

LauncherPro, Handcent SMS, WP Clock, and Touchdown Exchange will make all the difference in the world. Before you install a launcher, make sure you throw all the widgets on the 7 moto homescreens in the trash. Otherwise they will keep running in the background.

Coming from rooted Captivate

Using Launcher Pro paid edition. How is the GPS on the Artrix. Fast, Accurate lock? How about the camera with flash. Does this work up to your standards?
Any battery life info yet? Although the captivate does have a great screen, I have seen the inspire and atrix and they look fine to me as that is not the main issue for me. I have listed a few things that really bug be about my current phone.

Thanks in advance to any feedback.

If *nobody* told me what it was I would still see just not know what to call it. Prior to knowing about the whole atrix pentile screen, I did see the Galaxy S and noticed it. I thought it was just how AMOLED was in general. Where did I say color's pop more and that I like it? As far as *true colors* go, no display has true colors. You want true colors you have calibrate said display with the proper tools to achieve what you are looking for. IPS panels from my experience are the best at getting accurate colors. I believe the Iphones use an IPS screen.

...and the iphone 4 has a pixel density of 326 and the iphone 3gs is 165ppi. Go to google.com on an Iphone 4 and then on an atrix. compare the top and bottom text (images, places, etc on top and igoogle, settings, and etc on bottom) Do this without zooming in, now notice how much sharper/smoother it is on the iphone 4. If I zoom in on the atrix the text becomes clearer. This happens on my atrix, my wifes atrix, and on the display at the at&t store. Considering that some of my cowokers and even my wife notice this (it doesn't bother her at all) I'd say it's not my super human vision. My coworkers that saw the atrix didn't know about pentile nor were they told, the asked on their own how come the text is a little fuzzy? and It looks good, but if I scroll through a website the texts gets fuzzy, kinda have to really zoom to read it well.

I don't get what everyones problem is because I have issues with the screen. It's my opinion and if you don't like it then don't read it and ignore it. I'm not the only person in the world that has issues with this phones screen. I'm not on some sort of campaign to stop people from buying the atrix. It's a great phone, though if you are anal about screens this device may not be for you. That's why we have opinions, not everyone has the same tastes. This reminds me of the DLP issue when the tech first came out. You had the DLP people that didn't see rainbows and the ones that did and for a bit they said the people that saw rainbows on single chip DLP were crazy and making it up, turned out they weren't.

Battery life is HORRENDOUS so far.

That hasn't been my experience, also remember you've only had the phone for a day or two. I really pushed the phone yesterday and was able to make it through the day with some heavy usage. I'm talking about 2hrs talk time, lots of texting, some surfing and lots of app browsing, then around 5 when I left work I decided to use the navigation while on a call for the entire 30 min. drive. When I got home, the batter had about 10% left.

Are you judging this on the meter? If so, remember that it's in 10% increments. It may say 90%, but what it really means is anywhere between 90-99.
