Any chance of this getting Gingerbread?

Back when Gingerbread was believed to be v3.0 and not v2.3 some sites posted the min specs to be a 1GHz processor, 512MB Ram and 3.5 inches or more screen size. My question is, do these requirements still apply now that we know it is not a full version increase? If not, then do you think v2.3 could hit for the Optimus line?

Google refuted those claims, saying it was just hear-say, Gingerbread is not that much different from 2.2, only adding better Dalvik support, gaming support, updated videos drivers, etc, just a minor revamp nothing extreme, the real question is not if Google Gingerbread will work on our phone - because it will - it's if LG will bring it to our phones, which i don't see a reason they cannot since ours is virtually stock android.

right. Otherwise, we'll be bringing gingerbread to our devices on our own. ;)

I think the real question is will a developer bring gingerbread to life on the optimus. I am hoping that that becomes true, because I really enjoy the bloat free 2.2.

I'm wondering if a certain two developers active on this phone and forum will bring us a Christmas present of 2.3, I was actually on my way on here to create a very similar thread.

I'm guessing not unless LG brings us a Hanukkah present of 2.3 first.

I can pretty much say, i doubt very seriously this will come this month, that's only my speculation, each update android got no manufacturer got it quick, not even nexus one got 2.2 quick. Lets just hope LG do something, i can see this improving our phone drastically, or even ROM developers(but then again i think we'd still have to wait for LG considering the new kernel etc).

Geesh, there are phones out that haven't even gotten 2.2 and you are looking to get 2.3 on this device? LOL....

I think there is a decent chance that LG releases Gingerbread for this phone. Unlike, say, the Samsung Moment, which was a Sprint-specific phone from a company that moved on to the Galaxy S lineup of phones, this is a phone that was released in some variation (S, T, Vortex, One, etc.) all over the country and world, and at least at this moment it is LG's primary Android phone. Add to that the fact that it was released with 2.2 at a time when the other two phones Sprint was debuting at around the same time with SprintID (Transform and that other one I can't remember off the top of my head) shipped with 2.1, and you can at least hope that LG has a desire to keep their handsets up-to-date. There's a good chance that this is all wishful thinking, but I'm banking on LG releasing 2.3 for this phone (and then community members releasing ROMs based on it).

I'm hopeful they will as well. The phone can run it, and it'd help build brand loyalty a bit - if your phone updates to the new version and other brands don't, which brand will you be more likely to choose in the future?

Plus if there is an official release it'd save me from having to do a 3rd party ROM just to get a black notification bar...

I have a feeling that they might. Given that they clearly haven't forgotten about the device quickly as it seems that other manufacturers have with some of their devices (see Swype being added via OTA when the Optimus T started with it).

I don't think they've forgotten about it, but I think that some of the delay may be in relation to Sprint trying to get SprintID working on 2.3, and LG having to wait for that. Hopefully Sprint will eventually see that, while nice for first time smartphone users, SprintID should be a downloadable addon, not pre-installed and forced without a custom rom.

Considering this got the 2.2.1 update WELL BEFORE almost all other Android phones, LG seems to definitely be on top of the updates. I would think (barring some stupid hold-up from Sprint) there will be a Gingerbread update sometime early next year without question.

I agree that they need to not include SprintID by default. Isn't 2.3 supposed to get rid of custom UIs anyway?

I bet we get it before the end of the year...not from LG but from the ROM developers.

*DING* Another benefit to rooting;)
