I built a sweet little magnetic holder for my Nexus 5 using one of those cheap Qi pads. I just bought some magnets on ebay and took the pad apart and used epoxy to glue them around the coil. It was pretty nice just sticking the phone on that pad and having it charge with no cables. I don't think I'm going to bother with all that this time. Maybe if the G4 had the metal points like the nexus did I'd think about it. I'm just looking for a nice clean sturdy mount. Anybody have something they are particularly happy with?

I've been using the original Mountek in both cars since it came out (it's been at least 3 or 4 years), and I've been happy with it. You can find all their mounts on Amazon.

I use an iBolt X-dock that I've had for my past 3 phones. Great suction cup for the windshield. Never falls off!

I've been using the Mountek magnetic mount with my previous phone. I gave it a try with the G4, the metal plate fits perfectly under the battery cover, giving it a nice concealed look. It does compromise the hold a little bit but seems ok. I'm a spirited driver with stiff suspension and it hasn't broken loose yet. I'm rocking the leather so it doesn't sit flush on the magnet but seems to work ok. I've only used it a few days so time will tell if this is a good long term holder or not.

So you've got a leather back (with no cover) on your G4 and the metal plate still fit between the cover and the battery? And the stitching down the back doesn't interfere at all, or do you have to kind of position the phone off-center to get it to stick? I'm intrigued, as I had also used a magnetic mount for my Nexus 5 and loved it. I think I threw away the metal plate that originally came with the mount, but I'm sure I could find one somewhere.

Yes it fit. It does push the leather case out ever so slightly, i.e. there's a slight ridge where the leather meets the camera but hardly noticeable. It is naked, I tried It today with a soft shel as well but It wasn't strong enough to hold through the shell case.

It does sit a bit off center due to the stitching. Works great for highway driving, city driving and mountains twisties it does shift a bit But hasn't broken loose yet. I've been thinking about maybe adapting the magnet to have a small bracket that the phone can rest on so it doesn't slide down. Think of an L that comes off the back.

Note if you put the phone too low it automatically engages the circle clock due to the magnet.

I've read online that you can use any metal that is magnetic, you could try a scrap from a cookie tin or something if you lost the original metal plate.

I love Mountek's nGroove Snap because of the tight grip and location, it mounts in the CD player slot.

Obviously the down side is that
it's a PITA if you have to change CD's. I rarely use it.

I use the magnetic version of this. Works great. I never use my CD player so no problem for me. I put the magnet on the inside of a Diztronic case. Link to both below:

Anyone use one of those magnet mounts but still be able to use Qi at home? I don't care about Qi in the car mount but I wonder if that metal plate interferes with Qi or nfc?

My metal plate sits underneath where the so sticker would, so doubt it will interfere. I have the sticker on order so I should be able to verify once it comes I.

Cool. Just ordered this from Amazon:

Amazon.com: Infiniapps Replacement/Spare Metal Plate x2 pack: 1 plate with adhesive, 1 plate without adhesive. Compatible with other magnetic mounts: Cell Phones & Accessories

I'm hoping the magnet won't be too bulky. If it works, I'll be pumped!

This is what I'm using and its a really good quality car mount. I live in Florida and this thing has not come unglued from the dash even once in the year or so that I've had it.

iOttie Easy One Touch 2 Car Mount Holder for iPhone 6 (4.7)/ Plus (... http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JRGOKQ8...ag=hawk-future-20&ascsubtag=UUacUvbUpU4509575

I triple the recommendation of the iOttie. It is amazing! Not only does it work in the sizzling sun of Florida, I live in Wisconsin where it survives many days below zero without even a wiggle of falling off.
