Any moderate to heavy users think 32 GB will be enough with all the cloud storage options?

I've been using the 32GB version of phones for the last several years and I'm a moderate to heavy user. I don't download a lot of games or movies though since I have a tablet for movies and don't really play many games. I have used up about 15GB so far after copying my data from my 6P over and I don't think I'll go much higher than 20GB. It really depends on your usage and what sorts of things you like to download.

If they're putting it on Swappa this soon, it's too turn a profit from demand. Otherwise they'd just return it. I'd never be able to manage all my situations without the USB OTG, but those are rare enough that it's only a minor inconvenience. As I mentioned, the upgrade to 128 made financial sense, but balancing that versus the delay and the added value of the free Daydream VR tipped the scales strongly enough to make the 32 the right fit for me.

Agreed that they were trying to make a profit to buy the 128GB by selling on SWAPPA. I have a Meenova as well but just never used it. In fact I do not even know where it is with it's 64GB micro SD card in it. It was on my keychain and I never used it. For me, have the storage on the phone is what works.

It is not like I have ever even used half of my 64GB storage on devices, but I just like having way more storage than I need not sure why. My S7 active has 32GB AND a 200 GB micro SD card. I must have a storage full phobia!

Drive files are handled differently. If you upload them with Drive, they count towards you quota.

Google Photos will automatically back up pictures and videos from your phone to your Google Drive container.... It's not quite Google Drive, just attached to it. You normally access then via Photos, but you can access the files in Drive.

Photos is a great service.. people should use it more than they do. Even non Pixel owners get unlimited photos and video storage, just with a few caveats... Photos are lightly compressed (there is little, if any loss). Videos are more heavily compressed.

But I am paying for an extra TB, so I upload at full res anyhow. And I never use 4K to begin with.
I meant Google Photos, not sure what I typed drive. Thank you for clarifying for me.

For a phone capable of recording video at 4K and with that hardware, 64GB would be the sweetspot, but if you don't plan on keeping too much media and games on it, you should be fine, especially with Google Photos available to you at original file size. I have a 16GB Nexus 5 (yes, 16GB) and I never got to see the memory full notification 😋 And I do have music, photos, videos and apps on it. It's always around 60% of used storage. But again, a Pixel is a completely different phone

I don't know. I consider myself a light to moderate user of the cloud, and my Note 4 has 32GB to start with. And that's not nearly enough for the things I want to do. I manage to get by because I added a 64GB MicroSD card to it, so I wouldn't think the 32GB Pixel would be that useful. I guess it's going to depend on what you do. If it's all, say, office documents and stuff, you might be fine, but start taking lots of photos and videos, or keep a lot of music with you, and you're going to want more storage.

I got my hands on a Pixel XL 32GB and restored all of my apps. I still have around 16GB left. I can see this get filled up as soon as I use the apps, so it will certainly be bad within 6 months or so. This is all without photos stored locally.

Pissed off that Google did not release a 64GB version and went straight to 128GB which is a hefty price to pay for.

I originally wanted a 128GB model, but all they had/have are 32GB. I would've waited but I had 14 days to return my S7 Edge(that I got in place of my recalled Note 7) and I was already on day 7 on the 20th, Pixel's release date. I didn't want them to be sold out, so I jumped on the 32GB while my local store had some in stock. So far, I've only used about half of my space, and that's with everything that I usually keep (a music playlist, and some podcasts), so I'm ok with the 32GB.

SD card slot? Am I reading that correctly?

It isn't so much how much you use your phone, its all about how much you plan on carrying around with you. Now, for many there is a logistical need to lug around several dozen gigs worth of media... your signal might be hogwash for most of the time or you travel internationally so you spend a lot of time in dead zones with no data or cost-prohibitive data options, etc...

People leave way too much junk on their phones. Most everyone here.. admit it... if you go up and down your list of installed apps, there's a fairly long list of crap that you haven't touched in ages. The digital hoarder moniker is 100% true... I know I certainly am guilty of the practice. There's a few here just looking that fall into the category of "I might use it, but I haven't touched it since like two phones ago"... Google, of course, enables me because it'll gladly bring down all that useless goo when I reset my phone or get something new. Filling a 32G+ phone with apps takes a lot of effort (or an extreme lack thereof)

Now... if you are lucky enough to live in an area with good coverage.. between mobile data and good wifi... a 32G phone will be a lot more useful than you would think. Would you have to change your habits a bit? Sure, but I bet the adjustment would be a lot easier than you think. Put your 20G MP3 collection you drag around like a boat anchor and stuff it up into Google Play Music, they'll store up to 50,000 songs for free. Even if you don't have a Pixel, Google Photos is still an option... either the HQ 'unlimited to all' version or the 'only first 15G free' original quality one.

As for 4K.... I'm on the fence with that one. I can do 4K now, both me and my wife have 4K capable cameras on our phones. But neither of us have any 4K videos. I just don't see the use at the moment. First, my wife takes all our videos and then creates video compelations from them.. "Summer 2016", "Disney" etc... and she does so in 1080 because anything higher would be a senseless waste of resolution, storage space and processing cycles... we don't have 4K TVs. The 1080 videos we make now still look pretty damn good on or large TV. 4K goes under the law of diminishing returns.

I have about 42G free on my 64G 6P.... 200 some odd apps (most of those just wasting 1's and 0's).... I got the 64G because I could. If it was only the 32 and 128 and a $100 spread between them... I dunno. I probably would have got the 128 version, only 'because moar', but I don't think I would have had any issue with the 32.

Hahaha, that is typically true. I spring clean every time I get a new phone -- set up as new. It is amazing the apps you try, then never delete. There are a lot though that I need that I use very infrequently, but hate downloading and setting up the **moment** I NEED it.

Add to that the processing time of editing 4K -- it is time intensive. I shoot in 4K a fair amount, and there are a couple huge advantages to having the extra info in post (stabilization and zooming/cropping while maintaining HD come to mind), but damn, it can take forever to edit a film unless your computer is a boss.

Found this real quick, a couple more reasons to shoot 4K, even if you output to 1080.

The final reason to shoot 4K is to future proof, at least a little. You will one day have a 4K tv, why not have the videos you take today look beautiful tomorrow too.

Food for thought.

I do download my Google play music to my phones, but I don't need all of my playlists on my phone at the same time. My biggest space hog is photos, so the free storage works for me.

Oh, I get the merits of it. For me, it doesn't justify the overhead yet. I have a lot of older stuff in the recesses of my digital junk, crappy cameras, low res video cams, etc. The memories are often far more important than the format they we taken on.

And last, but not least... My wife is not JJ Abrams. It was hard enough to get her comfy editing videos (she uses Microsoft movie maker)... If I start introducing conversions and a lot of post work... Yeah, I'm all set with that.

if you usually use mobile data, then the 32Gb is quite..ok
Have you checked for other choices on ebay or amazon?

Fair enough. I get stuck with the post -- and I do less of it than I'd like.

Also, we have a ton of video on DV, and still take some on occasion. I am going to have to convert that someday . . .
