Yep completely agree with updates, OnePlus has a fake reputation of being great at software update but reality is they suck. It's mostly because the clueless tech bloggers and YouTubers keep harping on how great they are at software updates. I think so leaving in the initial OnePlus days bubbleSamsung is now better than One Plus at monthly security updates. Also Oxygen OS updates will often break things. So Samsung makes for a more stable expedience IMO.

How are you liking the OnePlus?S21 Ultra is definitely a better overall value IMO. In terms of root, never bothered with that for many many years now so no can't speak on that. The only reason to get OnePlus 9 Pro is if you prefer oxygen OS so much that you don't like anything else. If not I think S21 Ultra is better. S21 has better overall hardware (especially camera hardware), better updates (monthly security updates compared once in 2-3 months on OnePlus), longer software support, better accessory support, better camera. OnePlus does have better fast charging if that matters (personally never cared about how fast a phone charges). Price is kind of a tie but Samsung offers way better trade ins so you'll be paying less overall for S21 Ultra than OP9 pro which doesn't have great trade in offers compared to Samsung.
My OnePlus 9 Pro is delivering Monday and I can tell you after few days or a week if it blows my mind compared to my S21 Ultra. I always have multiple phones so may not be the best judge![]()
But if I had to only choose between OP9 pro and S21 Ultra, then personally I would say go for S21 ultra between the two. Been super happy with S21 Ultra and doesn't have any major flaws, very well rounded premium phone.
It's a good phone, though after a few days comparing with Ultra I think I like the Ultra more. Display both are good but the S21 looks more vibrant. May be I just take off that stupid pre installed screen protector on OP9 Pro and it might look little better. Generally don't use screen protectors on my phones. How are you liking the OnePlus?
Thanks for the response. I'm definitely taking my standard S21 back today because I think it's just too small for what I like. Plus, it randomly gets very hot for no reason. This occurs in safe mode as well, so I know it's not any of the apps I'm using. I'm having a hard time deciding whether to go with the 9, 9 Pro, S21+, or S21 Ultra. Of course, the Ultra is top of the line, but it's so big and heavy. I love the size and form factor of the OnePlus 9, but I don't like that it's not QHD. Plus, I've read and watched a lot of reviews that said the Hasselblad partnership seems to be mostly hype, and didn't really make the cameras that much better. That's the only issue I've had with all of my OnePlus devices since the 6. I'm not a crazy camera user, but I do like to get a great photo now and again. A friend of mine said he tried the S21 Ultra, but it didn't really fit well in his front pocket, especially when sitting down. I worry that that would drive me insane. It's a good phone, though after a few days comparing with Ultra I think I like the Ultra more. Display both are good but the S21 looks more vibrant. And software, I think Ultra feels more polished and matured IMO. Still checking out the camera, it's good but nothing super special with my limited usage. Battery also I think Ultra is little better though I might be using the OP9 more now and still needs few cycles to settle down to normal usage.
One thing I like is the size of the OnePlus compared to Ultra. Definitely the OnePlus feels much more compact and easier to use. Also that 65W charging is amazing even though I mostly use my existing wireless chargers to charge. But I used the 65W chargers few times and amazes how fast you can get to full charge.
If you are buying OP9 Pro, I think you are buying because you love oxygen OS and want that 65W charging. If those are not important, my recommendation is going to S21 Ultra.
OP9 pro is definitely lighter and smaller, but not drastically compared to S21 Ultra. Both are big phones with OP9 pro slightly better to manage. At the end it comes down to your personal preference. Looks like you are familiar with oxygen os in general, so give OnePlus 9 pro a shot if you like OnePlus. As I said it's a good phone, but for majority S21 Ultra is a safer and even cheaper choice at least in the US. At the end, they both are premium phones and you won't go wrong with either. Thanks for the response. Has anyone gone from a OnePlus device to the S21? I'm curious to hear your thoughts. I currently have a OnePlus 7 Pro, and I've been waiting for the 9 series launch, to see what they had to offer. After seeing the specs and reading/watching a ton of reviews of the 9 series, I'm on the fence between upgrading to a 9 or the Galaxy S21. I prefer to root my phones. I'd like to hear your experience, if you've made this similar switch.
Yeah, I'm definitely missing the notification slider on the side.Switched from the oneplus 6t 3 days ago, and I'm annoyed by the weight distribution of the camera bump on the s21 ultra, missing the mute switch and oneplus usability features, but so far that's it. I still need to play with the cameras a lot, as that's the main reason I switched, so I'll report back on wether I keep this beast or not.
I hear you , I just bought a new 1+7T mclaren 5g to replace my lost 1+7Pro , love it so far , wasn't crazy about 8 and 9 without Pop up camera .Yeah, I'm definitely missing the notification slider on the side.
I've considered the Ultra, but it's just too big for what I want. I'm looking to go smaller than my 7 Pro. I like a decent camera, but I don't need anything super professional quality.
I was on the fence about the ultra because of the size as well so I opted for the S21 smallest one
Sorry, just seen this. The Ultra is definitely a bigger device than the 8t. I personally don't mind the extra weight and besides you get used to it pretty quickly. The camera is better on the ultra than the 8t although I have taken some decent shots on the 8t as well but the Ultra is way more consistent in the camera department.I too have the oneplus 8T, which I do like very much as it is my first OnePlus phone, however, I am not pleased with the camera. I am pretty sure the ultra camera is far more superior, which is why I am thinking about getting the Ultra.
Since you had the 8T, what are your thoughts? How is the size of the ultra compared with 8t? How does it feel in your hands?
Thanks for your inputs
I have both so I could try but I don't have the patience to drain the S21 Ultra fully to test thisHas anyone used the 65W OnePlus charger to fast charge the Ultra? If so, how long does it take to fully charge the ultra using it?

In general the charger will charge but it's not going to charge the phone at that speeds. Dash charge also has software component which only works with OnePlus phones so I don't see it's going to charge the Ultra any faster.
FWIW it says super fast charging when I plug in the 65W dash charger... It says 24 min but that's because i think when it's close to full charging it charges very slowly to conserve battery (I think)
