Any Pixel converts?

I must say that I'm very happy with the pet pics compared to the last Samsung I used (Note 10+)! I just point and shoot and they're looking great!

I went with the regular S21 coming from a Pixel 4. While I do enjoy some things that Samsung offers, I will probably go back to the Pixel line when it is released if it is everything that it is being cracked up to be. First time Samsung owner here so really cant compare to the earlier versions, but not a huge fan of some of their software. Some I just don't plain use so it would make more sense for me to go back to a Pixel

The only thing I wish Google offered on their Pixel line without having to have a special app for is the email tags and the text message tags etc. It is nice to just glance at my phone as I can with the Samsung and see exactly how many messages, emails, calls, received that I have. I feel this should be standard on all phones, stock or not. I should not be that difficult to add something like that to a stock o/s

I feel ya ... I love a lot of what Samsung offers. Some I find extremely useful while other stuff I'll likely never use.

As for app notification badges, several third party launchers offer this. I agree with you though, Google needs to seriously step up their home launcher game! Samsung has done a great job with their launcher, I must admit! Typically I am installing Nova Launcher Prime within a matter of hours, but on the S21 Ultra I'm still using Samsung's stock launcher after several days ... a personal record

Congrats @YankInDaSouth on your new phone …I guess I will see you here till that 6 Pro hits the shelves
Yeah, latest Pixel 6 Pro rumors have me wondering if I should return this S21 Ultra and hang on to the Pixel 3 a few more months! Only concern is the first generation Google in-house chip ... in theory/on paper it sounds amazing! But it could also be a disastrous mess LOL Early adopters with first batch could be nothing more than Google Guinea Pigs Wondering if I could hold out and eye the Pixel 7 ... but knowing how I am, once I see new Pixel goodness I will want new Pixel goodness LOL. Although, I passed on the 4 & 5 an opted to hold on to my 3. Longest time with one device in my personal history.

What to do, what to do

This right here is my only concern and a great point bc that chip I'm not 100% absolutely confident in a smooth first adopter experience... I could definitely see issues and needed tweeks... Worst case I don't like it and sell the phone to find out myself... Haha

I don't do well in waiting on anything... And I'm Samsung in all the way on the foldable... But one can look right

Google guinea pigs... Perfect analogy!

Very much contemplating returning the S21 Ultra. There's nothing at all wrong with it, nothing I particularly dislike and it seems like a great device ... there's just been no "wow" factor for me - nothing has blown me away. And at this price point I can't see holding on to something that I'm not totally sure of. May give it a bit more time (I purchased from Amazon so they have a 30 day return window) and see how I feel ...

Not too sure if this has more to do with me and how I've "matured" with not feeling the need to have the latest and greatest or more the state of smartphones nowadays and how things seem to have plateaued ...perhaps it's a combination of the two.

Edit: Only legit complaints I have:
1) The signal ... it's been pretty bad in areas I typically don't have issues with when using other devices.
2) Delayed notifications ... seems when the phone goes into a deep sleep certain notifications don't come through until I wake the device (despite messing with all sorts of settings. A little research revealed this appears to be an ongoing issue with Samsung devices)

I owned the pixel 2xl, 3xl, and 4xl and loved everything besides the lack of storage and ram. Moved over to the s20 ultra and now the s21 ultra. Based off of my needs in a phone, Samsung is better in every category other than the camera.

Scenery photos are great on both phones. The camera on both Samsung phones are unable to get reliably clear photos of my toddler in motion. Pixel and iphone are the only phones that can get a photo that is clear most of the time the instant I press the button to take the photo. My s21 ultra appears to get the photo but when I pull it up from gallery, it's a half second later than when I actually pressed the button, or it's blurry. You only get one chance to capture these moments and my Samsung phones have mostly been unable to deliver in this scenario. Pictures of the sunset, landmarks, and people posing for a photo are fantastic on my s21 ultra. Basically anything other than people or objects in motion come out great.

I've come to the conclusion that the pixel camera is my priority over the much superior specs of Samsung's flagship phones. I will take a good hard look at the pixel 6xl and likely switch back to team pixel for the foreseeable future so I can capture the moments that are important to me. There is a lot I will miss from Samsung hardware and one ui but if the camera can't get the difficult photos I will compromise everything else to get those photos going forward.

I understand what you are saying. If, for the amount of money you paid for it, your phone isn't working you, perhaps it's best to consider returning it. Perhaps give it a few more days to make absolutely sure. But I can definitely see your reasoning here.

Yeah ... hard to justify spending the cash when I'm not 100% certain. I mean, I like a lot of what Samsung offers, but if I don't have their hardware/software tweaks I don't see myself missing them.

Plus I have a very strong feeling that I'll regret the decision to keep this phone once the Pixel 6 Pro drops LOL

Your problem can be better solved with Sony Xperia 1iii (Pixel will also do decent job, but Sony's 20fps is at next level). I have the same issue and tried Sony 1 ii and it absolutely nailed it. Am note user for long and own Sony A7C. Now thinking of Sony 1 III or Pixel 6 pro. Will wait for Pixel announcement to understand improvement in camera h/w before I choose.

I got bored with my 4xl. Samsung has so many ways to customize my phone just the way I like it using Good Lock apart from just changing the wallpaper or launcher and icons. You used to have to flash a custom ROM to get the amount of customizations that Sammy offers. Believe me I know. I spent hours flashing different roms. Almost daily.

Yeah, Samsung really has a ton of customization, have to give them credit for that!

I definitely don't tinker and tweak my phone like I did back on the day ... Nowadays I pretty much leave it stock - don't even install Nova Prime anymore.

Welp, opting to send it back; can't see shelling out $1000 and being on the fence.

My "perfect" phone is out there somewhere ... maybe

Haha, truth be told, when I ordered it I figured on it being a rental. I just don't know what it is , I love the look and specs on Sammy devices, but I just can't seem to find myself commiting to them long term.

I had google pixel 4a for few months.
Mainly like Google apps, pixel launcher, I like
Google always on display with time and weather showing together. Now playing I like on AOD.
What I don’t like Google Pixel doesn’t screen share with my LG TV Nano cell (2019).
Google pixel features are missing if you live outside US.
Camera not good as iPhone 12 or Samsung S21 Ultra.
I miss smart select on Samsung phone, I miss Good lock app, I miss spam, fraud iD caller and I miss Samsung theme store. And icon packs. So I like Samsung phones better.
