Any regrets getting this phone?

The fingerprint sensor has been criticized since the phone launched, I can assure you that I’m not the only one having issues with it. Compared to the competition it is subpar. I’m surprised that you’re not aware of that but if it works for you then that’s what matters I guess.

I read the forum and reviews. I was quite apprehensive before I finally got my P6P. I was expecting to have the disappointment I had been reading about.

I was delighted that the fingerprint sensor works reliably for me. I'm not alone with my experience. Several others on the forum have also reported having no problems.

I regret something about this phone every day. It will certainly not be the three or four year purchase i was hoping for.

One of my biggest concerns with the Pixel 6P.

Some say they have never had a problem with the FPS; however, many have reported problems and it is evidently recognized by google since they have issued a fix back in November and it is implied there is a further fix coming in the delayed update later this month.

So, as someone who wanted this phone, someone who actually attempted two orders, everyday it falls further back in my thoughts. I'm waiting anxiously for the update even though I do not have a phone; I want to see how the known problems are fixed; if they are fixed.

But as noted, another big concern is will this phone last, even as long as my 4XL? Not talking software updates, worried about the hardware.

I'm one that has no issues with the FPS. I wouldn't hesitate to return my P6P if I could find any fault with it at all. I'm on the Nov. update. I'm not saying that there isn't a possible problem with the FPS. Just that I don't see any problem with the FPS on my phone. it's fast, accurate, and isn't too picky with my finger placement. After reading the negative reviews of the FPS on these threads, I'm even more critical - looking for a problem with the FPS on my phone. I've got a P6P with an FPS that just works.

You're right in that the fingerprint sensor on the Pixel 6 is not very good, especially when compared to in-screen sensors on competing phones. It has been (rightfully) criticized a lot for being slow and inaccurate. Which is unfortunately the case.

Prior to the Pixel 6 Pro, I had a Galaxy S21 Ultra and that fingerprint sensor was miles ahead of the Pixel's. Lightning fast, super accurate, it was great. Then coming to the Pixel 6 with its slow, inaccurate and blinding sensor was a disappointment.

The December update was supposed to speed up the sensor, but from my usage, it didn't make much of a difference. You still have to hold your thumb over the sensor for a second or so before it unlocks, if it unlocks.

Given the fingerprint sensor Google used, I too would have rather a rear sensor like in previous Pixels. Or would have liked Google to use a modern fingerprint sensor like the ultrasonic one in the Galaxy S21 devices.
They definitely should have used one like the S21 ultra or even the one from the OnePlus 9 which also works great.

You must be lucky then cause mine is total garbage and rarely works so now I just use smart lock.

Yeah if it works great for you that's awesome but unfortunately it doesn't work that great for many others. Google themselves know that's why they pushed an update in November to improve it and they'll do the same with the end of January update to improve it again. Personally I'm waiting for that update to see if it works better, if it doesn't this phone goes bye bye.

I set up both my index finger and my thumb as two fingerprints each and have had no problems with the accuracy of the FPS on my 6 Pro. I also took care to capture each finger from every angle during set up. Is it as fast as the face ID on my 4xl was? No, but it's been very accurate for me.

I haven't used a OnePlus 9, but the one on the Galaxy is great. You just have to tap it and it unlocks. Fast, accurate and doesn't flash a light on the screen to read the fingerprint.

I'm guessing Google will continue to improve the fingerprint scanner. Hopefully the January patch will make it then faster and more accurate.

The one on the OnePlus 9 is very fast too, it is optical but works great. The location of it isn't the best but at least it's reliable unlike the pixel one.

I also have zero issues with the fingerprint unlock. Works nearly 100 percent.

Still don't regret this purchase, but the irritation level is growing. What was originally a 4, on a 1-10 scale, is now a 7.

Same thing. I was able to deal with the minor UI glitches in the beginning, however with the now missed update, and the glitches migrating into other apps, and in general being more pervasive, I'm starting to grow tired of the annoyances.

That would make me feel frustrated, too! I can understand that! Hopefully Google fixes things soon!

Haha. Mine was a 5 (minor reception issues & poor fingerprint performance), then jumped to a 9 (major reception issues with December patch) and now it's back down to a 5 (rolled back to November patch).

Don't regret the purchase, but I'm not attached to the phone. If the January patch doesn't fix reception and the plethora of bugs, then I'll just get rid of it for the Galaxy S22 Ultra once it comes out.

Reading through Android Central it's obvious that all phone brands have a plethora of bugs and quality issues. No phone or phone os is bug free. How those bugs are tolerated mostly depends how a person likes the phone build, features, and operating system environment. My Blackberry Key series (I had all three) had bugs and build issues, and yet I wouldn't dream of giving those up until they were no longer supported. So brand loyalty does play into the degree of issue tolerance.

So I decided to see how this phone is selling on Swappa and was a bit surprised to see how many listings there are for it considering how recent the phone is. I'll hold on to the 6 hoping the upcoming update will bring more life into it.

I'm not surprised at all. The same thing happens with the new Samsung phones... Pretty much a trend.. as soon as them phones start hitting customers. The sales start ramping up on Swappa
