Any unrooted people ?

Yep, it was when I did that part, but once I plugged it in to let unrevoked do its thing, I put it into charge only as the instructions said.

I have not rooted. I am afraid I am going to jack my phone up. Besides, I still hold on to the hope that Verizon, Google and HTC will give us an official update to Gingerbread. Plus, I love the Sense UI so much. The phone is great even without any of the custom ROMs.

I'm happy with the DINC the way it is, plus I've been able to improve it with all sorts of apps, etc. I don't see what rooting will gain me.

Why I rooted!

I got my phone from best buy and bought there 10 buck a month insurance (friend works there and told me that if i root and brick just to literally break the phone beyond repair and they will replace it).... that being said... I originally only rooted because of setCPU, being able to set the 'screen off' to 245 and 'screen on' at normal operation - saves alot of battery... Now, I cant imaging not being rooted. the possibilities are endless, with the "smartass" kernal I am able to set my 'screen off" all the way down to 128Mhz and 'screen on' to 921Mhz (just below stock default) YES it does take time to learn how to do everything you may want to do, but everyone in here is very helpful and has answered all of my questions. now Flashing ROMs is kinda addicting :) other than the actual hardware, you can pretty much change your whole UI and OS to something else. i personally am fond of Cyanogen nightlys (seem stable so far)... i have tried alot of ROMs and kernals and I am happy where I am at... PLUS before I was rooted i had freeze ups and lag.

--Screen Shot as of right now--

I am not rooted, but my wife and I are on schedule to be debt free in about 8 months. While i am not too worried about bricking the phone, I also don't wish to have to get a new phone because I was monkeying around. After we get debt free, I will reconsider.

Your ideas are solid and smart... However, it is almost impossible to brick if you follow the exact instructions, and you will be amazed at how much better your phone is... basically, my Htc Inc is just a shell and a completely different OS and UI. amazing what this site and its forums can do for you... anything you need help with do not hesitate to ask... food for thought

Well, there is now one less unrooted Incredible in the world tonight. After lots of research and debating with myself weather or not I wanted to void my warranty I finally pulled the trigger and rooted my phone. There is always a risk of bricking your phone but rooting with unrevoked was surprisingly easy, I just did my research and familiarized myself with the process before hand and everything went like clockwork. Now to go flash CM7.

Word of wizdom

Thanks, I'm definatly going to take a look at the nightlies and clockworkmod. I'm glad I rooted my phone and I'm glad I did my research first. Whatever ROM I finally decide on I'm sure I'll love it.

When I got my phone(s) ( dinc:July 2,2010),(dx:July 20,2010) I thought I would never root my phones ... However haha by Dec. 2,2010 I was bord with both my phones read up on how to root made sure I understood how to also unroot before I even rooted lol.

Both phones have been rooted since mid Dec. 2010 and no longer bord with em ,, actually not even considering upgrading yet either now ( I was before I rooted) :D

Well thankfully I was able to get my phone back to stock. Rooting just didn't work for me. I rooted my phone successfully enough, then I flashed CM7 RC1 then CM7 Nightly 11 and had problems with both of them. I had wifi problems that caused part of my monthly 3g allowance to be used up, and I can't afford to go over. Plus both of them had this strange problem I couldn't solve where the display took up 79% of my battery usage and drained my battery way too quickly for my liking. It's a shame too, since I really liked CM7 I know lots of people have great experiences rooting and flashing custom ROM's, but unfortunately it didn't work out that way for me.

for me. at the very leasy it was worth rooting for the simple fact of getting rid of garbage bloatware. That drove me insane. I tried loading a few different roms but i am really used to, and like the stock rom. For me its a simple overclock and loatware removal. Awesome

And there are plenty of people who have returned they're rooted phones to asurion for insurance, paid the deductible and have had no problems. If you are worried just tell them its lost or stolen

shhhhhhh but ...I "heard" that putting it in a microwave for 2 seconds would pretty much fry it to ;)

I havent tested it tho it mite be evil ,,,, O:-) haha

I'm starting to get hardware envy, even though the TBolt hasn't come out yet (despite a full-page ad in the New York Times a couple of weeks ago). Thinking of rooting just for fun and to see what it would/could do, but haven't had the time to do the research. I used to put "bootleg" OS's on my blackberry all the time so figure this has to be about as easy, right?
