Any way to configure Tab S2 to charge wirelessly?

The mini USB port on my Tab S2 seems quite delicate and I am afraid it might become broken very easily. Is there any workaround to be able to charge it wirelessly? ( I hope! )

Unfortunately wireless charging requires physical components inside your device. Many of the phones that don't support wireless charging out of the box you could replace the back, but since the tab s2 doesn't have a user replaceable back I doubt there is any way to add it.

Same thing I was thinking and yeah those USB ports are delicate, an it's not as if they make them easy to replace either. The USB port on my Google 2013 N7 broke but I was still able to use it thanks to wireless charging. It sucks that they invented it and now they are building them without it.

I hear ya. I charge my N7 2013 wirelessly 80% of the time and love it. I bought my Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 just assuming I could charge it with a wireless connection. My mistake, and it's one of the few things I dislike about the S2.

Are there any new tablets with wireless charging and if not why not? And since the manufacturers must know that USB plug is delicate and subject to breakage why not make it an easy pop out part to replace? That shouldn't be very hard to do. Sell a few less tablets that way, though, I guess.

I personally am not a big fan of wireless charging. It's convenient, but wireless charging is not as energy efficient and generates heat, which lessens the life of the battery. I've never had a USB port break on any of my devices, but I do agree that it's the weak link and they should make it sturdier. Maybe the USB-C plugs are better.

Is there a short adapter available anywhere, say maybe an inch or 2 long, the has a Tab S2 micro USB on one end and a regular / PC sized USB on the other end (without a longer cable in-between the two ends)? That way we could leave the short adapter stub plugged into the S2 all the time and just plug a longer cable with normal USB ends into the adapter while charging the unit? In other words, never have to plug in or unplug the micro USB end from the tablet again?

USB-C is better. It doesn't matter which way you plug it in. It's also capable of audio/video, as well as USB 3.1 transfer speeds and higher power output.

Amazon sells several. They are around $5.00. Look for micro to full sized sub cable. They are about 2 inches long. They can also be used to attach a sub drive to the S2, as it has a host USB port.

I would not recommend that. That "stub" would constantly be subject to bumping and movement and would more likely cause damage to the USB port.

If your set on wireless charging here is an option.

I would not recommend that. That "stub" would constantly be subject to bumping and movement and would more likely cause damage to the USB port.

Yeah, I thought about that stub bumping problem also. Thanks for the link but Amazon says that DigiYes wireless charging module is "not currently available". Would this one Robot Check work ok on a Tab S2?

Might depend on where the battery is located inside the case of the S2. As you know, the USB port is offset from the center of the tablet, don't know where the battery is in relation to the port.

It should work. Like nickdeck said though, the USB port is off center...which is kind of odd. So, positioning it on the back of the tablet could be tricky. Which would also make it awkward while sitting on the charger. It wouldn't be centered and would tend to slide off I would think.

Good point, nickdeck. I'm about to give up on the idea at least for now, and try to be uber-careful each time I have to use the mini plug. Too many of the reviews/comments about those wireless charging modules on Amazon seem to be negative and imply that they are better for phone use than tablets.

The Amazon comments I read about wattage said you need more wattage than most of them provide in order to properly charge a tablet.

I've installed wireless charging modules in phones with no worries. The key is that phones require less power than tablets.

This particular charger puts out 1A at 5V. The charger that comes with the Tab S2 puts out 2A at 5V. That's half the power; 5W (wireless) versus 10W (using the included charger).

You need not worry about damaging the USB port on the tablet. It takes a lot more force than you think to break it. In fact, I've never had a computer, tablet, phone, camera, or MP3 player/iPod's connector break from normal usage. Or break at all for that matter. Any device that failed or was damaged was either from water damage (dropping phone in toilet and having a water proof housing fail on a camera), or cracked tablet screen from dropping and it. Never from connecting and disconnecting the USB cable.

The only time I've had any connector break was when our laptop was accidentally knocked onto the floor (soft carpet) while the charging cable was connected to it. It couldn't be repaired either. :-\

The USB port on my Google Nexus 7 2013 broke just in ordinary use. Apparently that was a weak point on that tablet as I've seen reports of others having the same problem. It did have the wireless backup though so it was still usable even with the broken port.

Completely agree the USB ports are very fragile had two come loose on s4 phones and another two on nexus 7's been using wireless charge pad since.
Just received my tab s2 today love it but fear the loose USB in the future
