Like the title says is there a way to hide data usage from your service provider, that way they don't uncap your data.

Any data that is used when on the cellular network is routed through your provider's servers.

So as said by the others, the only way to hide it is by being on wifi.

If it goes through a providers network they will see it. No way around it.

What's up with all the data capping threads? Just join sprint or tmobile

My name is Soundtrack to Chaos, and I have a fetish for external chargers, big batteries, power outlets and extension cords and surge protectors... I need help

Wouldn't you want you data uncapped?

But no. Your provider gives you access to their services, there's no way to hide how you use them.

Most plans that I've heard of have options to purchase more data if needed. Otherwise, unlimited plans rock.

I would venture he is a Straight Talk user. Yes, there are ways to go around the proxy but when you get caught you will no longer have your phone number and your phone will be subject to black listing with ST. Let us know how it works if you try please...lol

Yes, there is a way. Get a job with your provider.
Other than that, no.

Most definitely yes, there are applications available and roms for rooted devices that are designed for this specific feature.

You might be able to encrypt or VPN to attempt to hide what your payload is but no you cannot hide that you have data going through your provider. It's impossible. Trust me on this.

If by 'data usage' you mean internet data usage, you can use something called a VPN or a Virtual Private Network to keep your information encrypted from prying eyes. In other words, VPN securely routing all your internet traffic through an encrypted tunnel to bypass monitoring by your provider.
Google Play Store has a lot of VPN apps, but not all of them will provide you with the best security so I suggest to use outstanding built-in PPTP/L2TP VPN connection tool so you don't need any other VPN client.
To get to the VPN window, click your phone’s Menu button. When that menu pops up, tap the Wireless And Network Settings button. Tap "VPN".
Hope it could help.

Dr. Rose...i think you may have help me out...so here is the scenario.
I have an unlimited data plan with ATT. But I travel alot causing me to buy international data, which is expensive.
Do you think if i use a VPN (a server in Chicago) that it can hide that I am aboard and use my "unlimited data" and not "international"?

No, even through a VPN in another country, you will still be accessing the VPN through the foreign country's network, and this will be tracked. there is no way around it. your meid or msid will be billed through your carrier and your carrier will pass the inflated charges along to you.

In fact, you may even incur additional charges since you're using your carrier will see you as using data in Chicago in addition to the international data
