Currently on VZW and have Total Equipment coverage which has been good and is reasonable. Just purchased unlocked Note 20 Ultra for my husband who is upgrading from a Note 8.

VZW says he can keep coverage with phone purchased directly from Samsung but want to charge a $40 "activation" fee. I told agent no way since I'd be activating my own phone. Anyone done this without paying the fee? Hubby is ROUGH on phones so he has to have insurance!

Suggestions?

I bought unlocked from Samsung and kept my VZW insurance. I don't think I paid any activation charge. I used the Sim from my Note 9, same for my wife's phone, and the insurance just carried over.

I still have my Asurion from AT&T and I bought mine direct from Samsung.

When I bought my note 10 last year got the phone from Samsung, but my insurance was with att.
