I took a look at one yesterday and wow, what a nice device. Lots of things I like about it and if I were in the market for a new phone that'd be my obvious choice. The one thing I kinda disliked was the single speaker didn't sound very good compared to what I've been accustomed to. But the rest was really sweet. It's lighter than the 10 which was nice and a tad smaller in size and to me that was nice as I'm getting away from the need for a big phone anyway. So, anyone tempted? I am but trying to keep a level head about it, but feeling the pull. Anyone else?

Update: I'm reconsidering the pixel with the Verizon BF discount. 32Gb for $240. Of course this is refunded over 2 years but still wondering if anyone is any more swayed towards a pixel with this deal. It would be a no brainer if I didn't already have an awesome 10. That speaker tho,,,

Re: Anybody check out the Pixel and consider switching?

I held the Pixel and the Pixel XL yesterday at a local T-Mobile store. Both devices are very nice on the hand, but they really look like an iPhone. I especially liked the Pixel. I didn't like its screen though and when I compared it to my HTC 10, I felt that the 10 is still the better device (for me). The software optimizations on the Pixel are of course nice, but nothing groundbreaking. After all, Nougat will soon hit the HTC 10, so we will get most of the Pixel features (but not the launcher and the assistant).
Another thing to consider is the difference you have to pay to get the Pixel or the XL. Here in Germany I could sell my HTC 10 for around 400€. The smallest Pixel with 32GB costs 759€ and the 128GB Pixel XL (which I would get) costs 1009€. Is a 600€ difference warranted? Absolutely not.
For people looking to buy a new device though, of course the Pixels are a good choice. For me, the HTC 10 is still the best phone.

Agree with what you're saying. The 10 will be a sweet device for some time to come, not even a year old yet anyway.
Sometimes new devices exert a pull on us enticing us to check them out. Then one thing leads to another and being the phone geeks a lot of us are we start to get pulled toward it.
I checked out an XL yesterday as that was all they had on display and thought it to be pretty sweet, has a lot going for it. The single speaker was the only downer for me as it wasn't up to what I have grown accustomed to. I agree the price is a sticking point especially since my 10 is in tip top working order and I have no real need for a new phone.
If your familiar with Best Buy it's a store here in the U.S. that has them priced at $199 according to their website with a 2 year contract extension on Verizon. So this does nothing to turn me off and that deal is doing everything to make me think it would be a good idea to pick one up at that price.
Sensibility comes and goes sometimes. But 200 bucks would be pretty sweet. So we'll see.

Re: Anybody check out the Pixel and consider switching?

I thought about it, but $$$$ gets in the way since I am broke right now. College for the kids is more expensive than I anticipated. But I do love my 10. The good thing about the Pixel is it is really an HTC phone, so you know what you are getting.

It may be an HTC built device but IMO the 10 is a much better looking design. Side by side at Best Buy's display the Pixel and the 10 together, the 10 just had a much more attractive look to it that also appeared "sturdier" for lack of a better word. Maybe be best to wait till Pixel 2 hits the market next year. Probably be lots of design improvements among other things.

Re: Anybody check out the Pixel and consider switching?

I'm definitely attracted to the Pixel. However, I just can't justify the price. For $600 plus a $25 SD card I got a great phone with all the storage I need and accident protection with the 10. To get the same options in the Pixel (128 GB and accident protection) you are looking at $850.
The Pixel, by all accounts, is a great phone but I can't see any way it's $225 better than the 10.

Re: Anybody check out the Pixel and consider switching?

Yup, I've thought about it and I haven't even seen a Pixel in person. But like most other's have said, the price tag is what is keeping me with the 10. I'd worry about the lack of SD card so I'd get the 128gb and would want the XL so that's a $869 price tag... too expensive. Honestly it helps that they are all should out too, keeps me from being tempted.

Re: Anybody check out the Pixel and consider switching?

I personally don't get the hype. It's just another flagship, although overpriced.

Re: Anybody check out the Pixel and consider switching?

Checked it out again today while I was out and it's pretty sweet but not sweet enough to pay the price and dump my 10. If my 10 was maybe lost at sea falling off a cruise ship or something so there was no getting it back then I'd maybe get a pixel, if I didn't just get another 10 for less of course.
Sweet device with a non sweet price. Gonna be happy sticking with my 10.

Just buy it and stop making excuses :)

You are trying hard to justify to not buy it, but deep down you want it badly. Just go for it if you have the money.

Re: Anybody check out the Pixel and consider switching?

No Pixel envy from me. I don't like the looks or the rear fingerprint sensor. The 10's camera is right there with the Pixel and I think it would win in low light.

And, I'm pissed that the Pixel sisters have knocked the 10 off the "Top Forums." :D

Re: Anybody check out the Pixel and consider switching?

It would be very difficult for me to justify upgrading from one 2016 flagship to any other 2016 flagship.

Blame the Honor 8. I have no idea what it's doing on that list, but without it there would be room for the HTC 10 and Pixels. The 6P and Note 7 also have no business being on that list. The 6P is from last year and the Note 7 was recalled, cancelled and pretty much doesn't exist.

The Honor 8 is an amazing phone, and also slightly smaller than the HTC 10 :p

The only thing that pulls me towards the Pixel is the size, because that's the only thing I would change about the Honor 8.

I’ve heard really good things about that one

Note 7 for sure. Its a non-purchasable phone. It should be a memory for anybody honestly.

Re: Anybody check out the Pixel and consider switching?

For me, it boils down to being a price issue. That is the SINGLE issue that has kept me from getting an iPhone for the past few years. I don't feel like any phone that costs $600+ is worth the premium over "mid-range" phone lines like the Moto X (RIP) or One+. In fact, if the 10 hadn't been price reduced to $548 on VZW, I would have stayed with my Lumia Icon until another, less expensive, VZW compatible device came along. (In truth, I would still be using the Icon, except that MS/VZW screwed up the AMOLED screen with a firmware update.)

Ultimately, it is a question of value. Does the Pixel (or iPhone for that matter) offer $700+ worth of value? Are the Hardware/UI/Features worth the cost difference? Not to me, they aren't. The grass is always greener, and the race to always have the best/newest/fastest is a fools errand; just as PC enthusiasts. It is a money pit for %'s that most people will hardly notice outside of benchmarks.

I'm clearly in the minority here, however, so I will show myself out.

I think you have valid points. Does the cost = buyers expectation. Thats perfectly fine in my book. X, Y and Z are great for me but not for another person. The threads comparing X phone and Y phone get to be super *ahem* sessions which is a turnoff. Why buy a phone when you knew that it didn't have a cosmic reactor or instant thought reading capability? You knew it didn't so why did you buy it?

I have a 10 and I am happy. I will be jealous a bit of my wife's Pixel. But I came from a DNA (bought on launch day) and she is going to move from an iPhone 5. So is eager to get back to Android (notifications) and cloud storage seems to be a great idea for her picture taking.

Good post. It always boils down to value received for cash outlay to get said value. It's human nature and our society in general that thinks they need the latest and greatest. Look at people who buy a new car they can't afford and financed for years. The last recession was caused in part by the housing problem loans. I'm digressing but your post shows good rational. Thanks

I tried out an Honor 8 and hated it. Not sure where the hype comes from with these phones, as I have also tried out a Honor 5x at one point and felt the same way. To me, they feel like cheap garbage. Axon 7 and One Plus 3 feel way better to use imo. Of course, the HTC 10 crushes all of these, but at a higher price point. And damn it if the Pixel isn't starting to pull on me.
