Decided to hop on the black Friday bandwagon and jump on the 32gb shield tablet. After extensive research I decided to choose the shield over the nexus 9. I didn't see many negative reviews on the shield but during my research on the nexus I found numerous articles showing how it wasn't worth the money. I am definitely going to take advantage of the gaming aspect as I got the controller for free but did I make the right choice? Shield and nexus fans please chime in 😊

That's exactly what I did. I love the Shield - and the controller works for PC games if you have a NVIDIA GPU.

I chose the Shield over the Nexus 9 - even at the same price. My Best Buy was doing the trade a tablet for $100 credit on the Nexus 9 - so the price would have been $299 for either tablet. I chose the Shield, and I'm not a gamer. My primary reason was because of expandable storage. The Nexus 9 had 16GB and the Shield has 16GB + my 32GB micro SD. I'm coming from a Nexus 7 2013 which was about the right size, so I think 8 inches at 16:10 might be perfect. 9 inches at 4:3 seems odd to me.

Well I've been pretty much on the side of buying a shield tablet since the nexus 9 was announced, but I wanted to wait to see it in person. My sister did the $100 best buy trade in for her nexus 7 to buy the nexus 9. She got her nexus 9 (black 16gb) and I can't say I'm impressed. She's going to return hers because the light bleed is crazy hopefully the next one isn't bad. Not just corners I mean all along the sides bad. I know every product has issues, but It's pretty bad. HTC is known for quality construction. That bad unit didn't hurt my chances of buying it, but it didn't help at all. As of today I'm a nvidia shield tablet owner. Now just looking for a good case.

I have both a Shield Tablet 32gb and a Nexus 9 32gb and although I really like the Nexus 9, as the screen is noticeably nicer, it really doesn't do anything different than my Shield. The Nexus is significantly taller, which makes it a little less portable. I need portability. The Shield has the benefit of a micro SD card slot. Looks like I'm going to return it tomorrow. My Nexus didn't have any light bleed issues or anything, but my Shield Tab just is easier to hold. I do game and both ran games effortlessly, and both get warm when doing so, but the Nexus gets a little warmer. Other than the slightly larger screen, I don't see any justification for spending the extra $$$. Just my 2 cents worth.

Thanks for the input guys, can't wait for my shield tablet to arrive! I'm leaning toward the official nvidia shield cover, does anyone have an opinion on if its any good or maybe there's a better option I'm missing?

I don't know of a better option. It secures very well to the side with strong magnets, is well-constructed, and gets out of the way pretty well when fully open. The auto on and off mechanism when opening and closing the cover is reliable. I mostly use it in the intermediate position where the thin panel sticks to the middle of the back, and it holds there pretty well. The more extreme position that holds it nearly upright doesn't stay as well, I find. More force working against it. Of course, if you're using the thing in portrait, it's not much use.

I'm liking the official case on the Shield Tablet. I use it as a stand a lot but I especially like that when holding the tablet for reading in portrait or even in landscape, the cover holds on the the back of the tablet with magnets. The sleep and wake feature is great too. I don't know of any other options but I'm more than satisfied with this one...

Edit: I have both the N9 and Shield and love them both!

I just got this yesterday. I like it; it has a low profile, it doesn't add much thickness to the tablet. The magnet holds the cover securely, and the sleep/on magnet feature has worked correctly so far. The metal piece on the front (middle/right) is a little tacky, but that's just a preference thing that I don't like. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I've got a question.... I know you said the magnet holds the cover securely but I read in a user review on Amazon that it can get loose especially if flopping around in a bag/backpack. This concerns me a little bit cause I like to take very good care of my devices, especially the screen. Have you experienced any thing like this or does the case stay shut always? Thanks.

Edit: I should mention I am currently using the official Nvidia case but have to also slip it into a sleeve to protect the back of the tablet when in transport. That's why I'm asking about this case. I want to eliminate the need for the sleeve...

I just carry my tablet, so I haven't put it in a bag; however, it's pretty secure. I can't imagine the case opening unless something was specifically wedged between the case and the screen.

FYI, there are magnets that hold the case to the screen in the middle (under the metal piece) and at the bottom. The top corner does not have any magnets and is a little looser right there, but it's not very noticeable unless you're looking for it.

Just recieved my tablet in the mail today and so far I'm highly impressed with everything! Now onto a case... Probably going with that procase
