Anybody with a moto actions not working? (Approach)

I had this exact issue on my Moto X Pure Edition (3rd gen.). Found this thread and just fixed it! I had thought that Moto Actions > Approach just suddenly stopped working, but it wasn't sudden at all! In Settings > Display > Screen Notifications, I had wondered what was the difference between Moto Display and Ambient Display, so I had switched to Ambient. I just didn't notice that THAT was when Approach stopped working. Having read this post, I switched back to Moto Display, and now Approach works again! Good luck!

Same fix here!

the ambient display setting under settings, display, attentive display was set the the second one and when I changed to the top to show interactive icons, it began to work like I'm used to. Whoever offered that advice...thank you.

Go to apps--> settings--->modify system settings disable the following moto, connenct, moto voice (this will allow the adaptive brightness setting to be shown in the display menu from the phones settings), go to settings --> display --> disable adaptive brightness, reboot your phone and then Go to apps--> settings--->modify system settings and reenable moto.

This should fix your problem without a hard reset of your phone

Hi,

Don't know if this will work on your device or not but it worked for me.

What i did earlier was that i turned on a feature under Settings--> Display--> Ambient display.
I turned this feature on and only after that i noticed that wave to wake up function has stopped working.
I disabled this feature again and whoooossshhhhhh... wave to wake started working again!!

Please check it with your device and see if it works.

Please keep us updated so that we can know if your issue is sorted out or not.

Cheers!!

Warm Regards,
Maulik

It worked... Holy cow.. Can't believe it was that simple... Thanks dude!

Hello all,
I am having the same issue in here. I had my screen broken and I intalled a new one by myself. I am quide sure that the screen has nothing to do with the IR sensors as they are not directly attached one to another.
Now the IR sensors (approach function) is not working, exactly as pykim said.
I tried all sort of things to get it back working but I am afraid that my hardware is broken somehow.
I tried in the following order
- Soft resetting;
- Factory reset
- Checking/unchecking Ambient Display;
- Installing Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.
None of these worked.
I can see that the IR sensors are active and reacts when I move any object in front of the screen.

Is there any app that I am able to check or test if the hardware is working as expected? Can rooting it help to solve the issue?

Thanks in advance.

I was having this exact same problem. One possible problem might be that you have your 'ambient display' on. You can easily see if this is the problem, by going to:
the place with all you apps > moto > the settings wedge or wheel in the top right hand corner > display.
If you have ambient display on, a message will pop on the screen that says:
"Moto display disabled. Ambient display (in Android settings) will need to be turned off in order to use moto display."

If you have ambient display on, you can go to:
settings > display > ambient display and turn the little switch thing for ambient display from on to off.

On my Moto Z, 7.1.1 I did the following:

settings -> apps -> moto -> disable.

And then

settings -> apps -> moto -> enable.

Done. Everything started working again.

Moto X4 user here. The only difference between the original post and my situation is mine did not work brand new out of the box. Feel like I'm getting the runaround from customer service.

I don't have an ambient display, but I do have a choice of Night display on/off. I tried turning it off, no dice.

lett me clear
moto app not the settings
moto app contains
moto display
moto actions etc etc
go into moto display
and upper right corner enable that
just fixed my problem on turbo
