I was able to connect with security enabled with my Ubuntu laptop using ThundeROM 1.3. I don't believe I've tried since then, but I will when I get home.

Ya I've connected several computers, all seem to work fine..
Like i said though, i'm running stock, i don't know if you are..
Also, i'm not using the quickest widget, i'm using a hot-spot widget.. Don't know if that would make a difference.

I am posting this from a laptop running Ubuntu 10.10 wifi-tethered using WPA2 PSK security to my phone which is running ThundeROM 1.5 with deluxe buildprop and OC kernel. I am using the exploit that uses the Hotspot Widget that comes default with ThundeROM as described in the sticky regarding free wifi tethering.

I enable wpa and use an (8) digit password 12345678, once the laptop finds the optimus for a first time it may take a few minutes to actualy connect, try an 8 digig password and then wait a bit, it should work.

also I have been using Hotspot Togle by mehdy bohlool to connect, I like the icon widget better.

What is deluxe buildprop and OC kernel?

What is deluxe buildprop and OC kernel?

The deluxe buildprop is a file that android looks at during boot up that tells the OS what feautures/attributes to enable for the system. The deluxe buildprop can be found here, along with other versions of the build properties. The Deluxe includes Stagefright (Google's feature that I believe only exists in 2.2 version of Android, and has something to do with multimedia), JIT (Just In Time compiler), and hardware acceleration enabled.

An OC (Overclock) Kernel is the basically the interface between the OS and the hardware. zefie has been nice enough to work on the Xionia Kernel and get that available for us. This kernel, in combination with setCPU or Overclock widget allows you to set the processor in your phone to use a higher clock speed, thus speeding up your phone. It can be found here.

With both of these, follow the directions exactly as stated, and you should see a big difference in the performance of your phone.

simon.ponder gave you a great overview of what these are. I only mentioned them because I wanted to give you a 100% complete picture of exactly what my working setup is. I seriously doubt having stagefright enabled affects wifi hotspot functionality, but you never know. The kernel is certainly involved, but in ThudeROM 1.3 I was using the stock kernel and was able to connect to hotspot using security.

I'm running thunderrom 1.5 and am also having trouble connecting to the hotspot when using security. I had to open the connection to connect my lenovo oratorio using the ibm think vantage software. Maybe a regression in the latest version when connecting from windows?

So do I need to downgrade my Thunderom?
Where can I find an older version?
What features would I lose by downgrading?

I don't know whether down grading would help or not, I was just commenting that I'm running into the same issue. Maybe if you're running thunderrom as well that might be the common link.

I finally Got the Hotspot working with my PC. I had to download the WPA2 wifi hotfix for Windows XP. hope that helps others. thanks for the replies.

Hey nice find. Wouldn't have thought that the pc was the problem. Do you have any more info on this fix?
