Anyone care about new $30 fee

Looks like it works out to $1.25 a month ($30 divided by 24 months). Drop in the bucket as far as I'm concerned. I've got bigger things to worry about. Besides, consider it good will for those in need to use the "Wireless Workshops, online educational tools, and consultations with experts who provide advice and guidance on devices that are more sophisticated than ever." :)

That's a poor way to rationalize the fee. Of course $1.25 a month is a drop in the bucket and for that matter so is $4 a month(only $1 a week!) so why not let them charge you $96 for the upgrade? It's a ridiculous fee and just another way they're trying to squeeze every cent they can from customers.

Personally, I'm going to do what I've done in the past and wave my bill in their face and ask them if they'd like to lose me to Ma Bell.

So far all of the users who don't care about having to pay more don't seem to be worrying about money like most others do. One user even bragged about how much money they waste each month for things they don't need.

This new policy has been done before...it was called an activation fee. That's all I see this new policy as being. They essentially want you to hand over more money just for the privilege of using their service...as though we don't already pay enough. Just another way for them to nickel and dime us.

If by the time I am up for an upgrade and if this fee is still there, I'll probably go to another carrier. I already know that with other carriers I could save money, even if they have a similar fee. The grandfathered unlimited data plan is the only reason I still use Verizon...the incentives to stay are dwindling.

^Its not about bragging about wasting money for things they dont need...its about spending money on things they want. No one said you HAVE to upgrade. Thats a choice you are making to get the latest n greatest.

I still have a Droid 1 and Droid X1. Both activated.

Not everyone is as careless with their money as you. To many people, this fee is pointless and unnecessary that could be better spent on something important.

How much do you spend a week on lunch? I have a family plan that has 3 lines, 2 with tiered data plans.

I spend more in a month on data plans than I would for this fee....thats gonna be paid every year and 1/2.

If you subscribe to Netflix....do you get your money's worth? Or do you use it when you can?

I think most of us throw away more money in a week, month than we realize. Factor in habits like smoking, drinking....and yea....we probably throw away more money in a week, month than we realize.

Don't really care. Didn't it used to be $20? So only a $10 bump every 1 1/2 years or so? I get to keep my unlimited plan, so I'm good.

A $30 fee because VZW pays high Apple subsidies is not okay with me. Especially when they're running a 40%+ profit margin. Get a Google voice number and keep canceling and signing up again to get the cheapest prices and screw the upgrade fee. Nice try VZ I'm smarter than you lol

$20 upgrade fee was never charged by Verizon except for early upgrades in corporate stores which they would waive if you told them you would go to a retailer or customer service.

@jroc... U may enjoy giving ur money away not knowing why, but I sure don't. I just switched from sprint to Verizon a few months ago for service that's not all that much better and all I've gotten so far is..... More $$$$$$$ please. I'm really thinking about switching back. At least data is unlimited.

Forget everything I mentioned and think about money for lunch. Or eating out. Going to the bar. Smoking. Someone said that $30 fee that will happen almost every 2 years can be spent on something important. So what can $15 a year be spent on thats so important....thats its an outrage for this fee?

Once I finish a video game...I may never pick it up again. I buy a new movie...I may look at it a few times over the next year.

$30 almost every 2 years? I just dont see why all the outrage...

First, in case anyone hasn't heard, this is about the new (starting April 22nd, 2012) "upgrade" fee of $30 for existing customers to upgrade and initiate a new two year contract. Read all about it here: http://forums.androidcentral.com/verizon/166948-new-upgrade-fees.html

Yeah, I care a lot. Mainly on principle. They cut the NE2, the Annual upgrade, the 1 year contracts, and now (according to the article) it will cost an additional $30 to upgrade after fulfilling your current two year contract and when initiating a brand new 2 year contract. Ridiculous.

Personally, I think there is much more to come on this. I think the customer backlash will see the policy "clarified" (you know how they like to call it "clarification"), or changed. At the very least I think you'll see it often used as a "perk". Especially on higher-minute plans (i.e. sure, Sir, we'll be glad to waive the upgrade fee if you upgrade now -- maybe even early).

Time will tell. But I don't think we've heard the last of the VZW "clarification" on this new policy.

Welcome to what we've always been living with in Canada. Rogers bends us over for an extra $35 on a 3 year renewal. This is of course on top of the early upgrade fee's of $15 per month that you're early to upgrade if you decide not to wait 2 1/2 years. The US has it easy.

Because we can take that from you with no complaint....I could watch the local races all night and get dinner on that. I am outraged...KCUF Verizon.

I feel it's like Verizon is making us pay to continue to be a loyal customer. We already agree to an extended contract with a high termination fee. Let alone pay for the phone..even if it's a reduced rate, but isn't that why we have the extended contract?

It's kind of like our internet provider charging us a fee just because we purchased a new computer, it's just not right. (Don't give them any ideas!) :(

I just hope Verizon feels good about themselves. They are already known for being a nickel and dime..kind of business. :-$

You can still get unlimited data through AoL, if it's worth it for you. If sprint gives sufficient service, switch back. For me, Verizon gives the best service. Even if it is only 10% better, to me, it is worth it in case of emergency.

My concern is that we're just seeing the beginning and they'll be very creative in their increasing efforts to nickel and dime us to death.

Fee for this.... Fee for that....and pretty soon that 132 a month I'm paying now will explode. Prepaid is looking better and better.

People, it's not whether or not you can afford to pay this amount, it's the principle of the matter that counts. Sure, most of us can afford 30 dollars every 2 years, but what if verizon decided that instead of 30 it was going to be 100? Would you pay that? Point is, they're in control, unless they see enough customer backlash then they will continue to rape us in any way possible.

Know why Verizon charges the fee? Because they can. Why not? It's just more corporate BS. Got to hand it to Verizon. It takes balls to charge extras in today's economy. They should post the name of the corporate bean-head that came up with the idea so we can direct the love where it's due.

I like my Verizon service. I like my thunderbolt. Not ready to give them up yet... So when my phone craps out the I guess it will cost me another $30 plus the cost of my new phone.
