Anyone else feel kind of cheated by Google?

How much better is Huawei night shot compared to the pixel? Like blew the pixel out the water no comparison?

P30 Pro is definitely doing it, right now. Though I'd place Pixel 3 a very close second .... everyone else is just "also-rans" IMO, especially in low light.

Re: Pixel 3A/XL price rant

I own or have owned most all the premium" devices from apple , Samsung , and Google . I love phones plain and simple.
If speck makes a case for this phone I'm getting it without a doubt .
Camera and battery life are huge for me .
This thing has the makings of the perfect work phone for me .

Basically everything I love about the pixel at half the cost .

Re: Pixel 3A/XL price rant

Does the pixel 3a still have a notification led and what the heck does "A" stand for ? anyone but@ Mike Dee can answer this lol

I got my Pixel 3xl during the Fi birthday sale for $449, so no don't feel cheated at all. Feeling pretty good actually ...

Not at all. First, that's irrational and second, there's a whole lot to justify the price difference. Grabbing just two more or less random aspects of a device and latching on to them as if they define a smartphone experience simply doesn't make sense.

Re: Pixel 3A/XL price rant

I still don't get it. Why is the Pixel 3a/XL being lauded as an "affordable" phone? People might categorize it as a mid-range, but it screams budget phone to me. Only thing it has going is the camera and regular updates. But are those two enough to justify it's price and then call it "affordable"? No water resistances, no expandable storage, slow processor (per The Verge review), not even gorilla glass 3, no wireless charging and plastic build. Some might prefer plastic, but at that price, they could've gone metal. Even Moto G7 has better build.

If you look at BestBuy, you can get these unlocked phones (with activation)
- Galaxy S8: $399
- Galaxy S9: $399
- LG G7 Fit: $299
- LG G7: $449
- Moto G7: $199
- Moto X4: $49

It feels like they are trying to be like Apple, price up everything because of their name. Looks like they are having big discounts and promotions for the 3a/XL, but they should've priced it at $299 to begin with and then added the discounts.

Comparing to two year old devices doesn't make sense, it's essentially a better device than those devices in many ways, too similar in most and only inferior in things like water resistance and display. None of those devices are in the same product category and none of them can come close to offering a Pixel type of experience.

Re: Pixel 3A/XL price rant

They are great price and absolute value given the awesome camera, software, no crapware and software updates for 3 years. And also with all the offers going on currently and in the future, you pretty much sure aren't going to pay the full $399 or $479.

IMO they are priced great for what they offer.

Re: Pixel 3A/XL price rant

There is a place (and a user) for these underpowered, limited memory, unexpandable, vanilla Android devices. The decent camera and headphone jack alone will appeal to many, but I believe it's still too expensive to be within reach of many to whom it will appeal. Sales figures will tell, though.

That first sentence is a wild one lol. When you say under-powered, you mean non-flagships? Yes, there is a market for non-flagships. Most of the smartphones sold in the world are not flagships.

Re: Pixel 3A/XL price rant

Precisely my point. But this device is overpriced for a "non-flagship."

Re: Pixel 3A/XL price rant

Here's the closest device I can find to it: The Moto Z3 Play, released in August 2018.

Android 8.0, Snapdragon 636, 64 GB storage, similar size, same display resolution, same RAM, no 3.5mm jack, 3000 mAh battery, Gorilla Glass 3 (approx 2 generations behind the 3a), etc.

The Moto Z3 Play has a weaker processor, worse software, worse camera, same RAM, same storage, smaller battery, worse build materials, worse design and is otherwise very similar. It's $499 MSRP, on sale for $349 currently.

The Pixel 3a, which is arguably a better than or equal to device in virtually every category, has MSRP of $20 cheaper and has similar sales already. These phones are targeting the exact same audience, but the 3a is going to be a far better experience and at the same or better pricing.

Same here definitely not feeling cheated lol. Even if both 3a and original 3 released on same day I would have still picked the 3 since I need the most fancy phone possible with best possible features

3a is a great value but I love my wireless charging, higher resolution screen, faster internals etc. Worth twice the price? May be not but I always prefer the highest end phones.

As for the OP's last request that Google "lower the price or something," they've done just that. The 3/XL have been consistently on sale for months either from Google itself or Verizon. I'd be willing to bet the majority of people here didn't pay full price for their 3.

Yeah and that's same for most Android flagships. They are constantly on some kind of sale through out. For example take S10 series, they always have some kind of sale and pretty much most people don't pay the full MSRP and got on some kind of sale.

Re: Pixel 3A/XL price rant

The closest phone you can currently find in the UK is the Pixel 3 @ £489. The Pixel 3a is £399 here so for £90 extra you get the full deal which to me makes that one the more sensible option.

I don't feel cheated by Google at all. There will always be new tech or sales or whatever, that will have a different perceived value to users. I only buy things that I want at a price that I'm comfortable with. I do it that way so that, if circumstances change, I don't end up feeling cheated.:p

There are no deals on the 3A in the UK? It seems odd, to me, how people keep wanting to compare prices but aren't doing it "honestly" -- comparing the launch price of the 3A, not the cheapest they can find it, versus the cheapest price they can find for whatever other phone.

I can't speak for the UK, though I'm guessing you have some similar deals on the 3A, but in the US you can get at least $100 off (either directly or through a credit) and at least one carrier has a trade in deal that essentially lets you get the 3A "free." And, if you don't have the right phone to get the $400 trade in credit, you can buy one used online for roughly $100.
