Ive been using the Mobile hotspot like crazy since Ive gotten my charge, I get anywhere from 5-20 down depending where in Chicago that Im at. I really wish there was an unlimted plan, even if it were $60 I would pay for it. Cause my house, the only thing that is offered is Comcast at its almost $90 without cable service in my area in the NW Subs.

Anyone else feelin the same?

I drive a truck and have my laptop online all day long next to me. Have been using the hotspot since I got the Charge and realize it's expiring. I used PdaNet on my original Moto Droid.

So this weekend I did the rollback to ED1 root and installed Barnacle to use the wifi hotspot. It can go ahead and expire now !! So far I like the ED1 rollback. It changed nothing on the phone but gave me superuser and allows me to wifi tether for free. The only change with the ED2 is the media hub can only be used on 4g and not 3g. So there are no operational improvements lost going back to ED1.

The only down side is I have to keep clearing the update to ED2 notice. If I do that I lose the root unless I flash the Voodoo ED2 root. I just don't see any need to go to ED2 at this time.

The ED1 rollback is a breeze with the Odin fix and using Gingersnap took less than 30 seconds with a once click root.

I would love to use the free tethering on 4G, but my market won't get it until the second half of this year. Kind of sux.

I would like to see the fine print that says they can change your data plan while its still active. I know if you change your phone and drop the data once the current plans go away you would be SOL, but during your active agreement, well that won't fly too well.

Tethering Data Plans and Mobile Network Data are two completely separate features. You don't need the fine print for its either. Its one of the options you can select when you pick you phone's plan & features. The reason its not unlimited and charges extra is cause everyone (including myself who has been using the heck out of the free Mobile HotSpot) would bog down the network. Remember using a MiFi or using some sort of Wireless device's speed is based on location and how many users or in the area or using the network.

Think of your home Wifi as Phone company and your Laptop, video game Systems, and any other Wifi device has a Person using the network. The less devices using the Wifi the fast the speeds will be and more reliable it is. Then add more devices, the network will slow down, then all those devices downloading apps, watching videos, streaming music all at the same time. This are probably not looking so good, now imagine all those devices able to to tether to up to 10 more devices each without limits. You start hitting the unreliability aspect of things and the connection to be basically unusable.

Sorry for the super long explination but people don't realize what tethering does to a network. That's why companies are cracking down on it.
