Anyone else tired of 10 dollar fee?

Well you do have to turn 4G on on your phone to use it, so I'm sure they can tell if you are using 4G or not, and if you do use it then they can charge you the fee for the month, it's just stupid to charge a fee for something that if you don't live in a 4G area you probably won't use....
This as well. There are many ways they can tell if you're using it.

This is an age old thing now, your crying over spilt milk as it is. You agreed to the 4G and signed on the dotted line, so if you don't like it why did you sign.

Anywho, I'm in San Diego and we probably aren't getting 4G for awhile due to our geography (mountains and stuffs) and even when we eventually get 4G I still probably wont be in the service area. But I'm okay with that, and I knew what I was getting into when I bought this device.

I don't see what the uproar is about, imagine how hard it would be for sprint to say "you get 4g, gimmie 10$ now, but you don't so you don't have to pay" okay then as soon as those people get 4g and get charged the backlash and amount of customer service calls would be outrageous.

Sprint is a business. You are getting a fair price compared to other carriers even with the 10$.
Imagine if you were in sprints shoes.

This is a non issue if they don't automagically turn 4G on on your phone. Make people have to add the service separately.

That is a good point.. Really nobody even has the right to complain.. You agreed to the $10 charge when you got the Evo... Shouldn't have signed up if you didn't want to pay for a service you weren't gonna get.

But the thing is, you shouldn't have to settle for a lesser phone to not pay a fee. When I get a new computer that has a fee-based service installed, I don't have to get a lesser computer to no have the fee based service, I just don't use it and uninstall it.

Talk about beating a dead horse. If you don't like the fee get a different phone or go to a different carrier. No ones arm was twisted. I have 2 Egos and an Epic on my plan so I pay an extra 30 a month. Don't like it, but I also don't whine because I knew that was the deal going in.

I'm tired if these threads popping up. You knew when you bought the Evo there would be the $10 extra per month.

There are phones of equal spec on other carriers if you really can't stand the $10 extra. good luck getting all of the services Sprint gives you for the same amount of money.

True, but it's not fair at all to compare that to the smartphone business. There really isn't much outside of specs to really differentiate computers. That's not the same as smartphones. If the Evo came out as just a regular Android phone, it would have still been successful, but not as successful as it being the first 4G phone. Whatever fee based service on a new computer wont make or break or even be close to a deciding factor in that purchase. It can and has been for many Evo purchases.

LG Optimus S
HTC Hero

These are both good phones. I don't think you are giving up that much by not going with 4G. You want the Evo, pay for what it takes to get it. You can't want something and then complain about the cost. If it was a need to have the phone, then sure, the price can be complained about. It all boils down to the fact that you have the option not to get it. You can easily get a different phone and not pay the fee.

Ten bucks nets you:
No Cap
4G when you have the service
A sweet phone
A plan that is still cheaper then ANY other cell company

It's a moot issue.

Yeah sure, if I want a tiny screen with no slide out keyboard, or a tiny screen with Android 2.1 and no slide out keyboard.

Granted my Evo has no slide out keyboard, but it has a huge screen. I suppose I'm paying 10 bucks right now to have a large screen.

Then why don't you get a dx over on Verizon?

Oh yeah because even with the 10$ sprint is still cheaper, with no cap and 4G when available.

Thanks for reminding me. Add "Huge Screen" to that list above.
Rite. I don't count hardware or the phone itself covered under 10 bucks. And unlimited data is pointless if I've got Wifi 90% of the time. Being cheaper than other companies, great, I still shouldn't be paying a fee for a service I can't use. And "4G when you have the service." What if Sprint decided to stop putting up 4G tomorrow, hypothetically, would you still feel the 10 bucks is worth it? Paying for something with the promise that you might get it one day is upsurd.

If that's the case then switch networks to a network that has 4G and wont charge you and also has a data cap but that's still more expensive. Would you be happier not paying for 4G but paying more on your overall bill while also having a data cap since you dont use much data?

That's the principal folks. Are you getting what you pay for? Personally, it is the principal for me too. We can all swing ten bucks, yes, moot, whatever. But being charged for a service that doesn't get provided only bothers the sane I guess. I agree with OP 100%. Bigger picture, what is verizon, and others going to do when they roll out 4G? Will they charge me if I just have a capable device but don't use 4G? Grrrr, I hope not. Sounds like Sprint has perked up service ensembles for those that pay, so I also understand some people sweeping it under the bed, and not wanting to hear about it. I almost went back to sprint (had them for 4 years) but 4G isn't even coming my way soon, and I am not paying for the evos capabilities in theory! I better have me some 4G with that service charge, lol!

Soooo you would rather be on another network that doesn't charge for 4G, but still has a more expensive plan that Sprint with the 4G charge and also has a data cap just because of "principal"? o_O

Exactly. This argument gets old, has been hashed over a million times, and always leads to arguments. Closed.
