Anyone figure out how to select one or more words?

I've figured out how to get to the copy & paste menu items. I've also found the select all and select text options. What I can't figure out is how to use the select text function. If I choose select text from the popup menu, the entire text entry box lights up blue, and selecting one or multiple word (vs. everything) is is all but impossible. Has anyone figured out the art of how to do this?

Let me post a video for ya Cory.

edit:

Video soon, but here is the description:

Type your text. Then tap on the screen inside the text where you want to start the selection. Press and hold the screen, then select the "Select Text" option. Then you'll see the cursor change to a line with a small triangle on the bottom. Tap on the end of the text you want to select. It should highlight. Then press hold the screen and choose "Copy", "Cut", etc.

I'll have to post the video later, as I'm at work lol. Hopefully the description I edited in above will help.

It helped tremendously. I figured out that part of the issue, is that some apps don't show the triangle. Dolphin HD appears to be one of them. The select text option shows in the popup, the the triangle never shows up and you can't actually select text. I'll have to test some other apps, but it appears Handcent works per your instructions. I'll submit a bug to Dolphin HD.

Cory, did you get it working in DHD? I did, but it is tricky because that cursor doesn't show up on the pages. You kinda gotta hope you've clicked where you want to start lol.

here's the video, since I did do it lol. I know it isn't really useful now.. but eh...

Thanks for the video. It appears to work well in Write & Go, and Handcent. I see what you mean in DHD, but I can't get it to work at all in a text entry box, such as the one I'm typing in now. How about you?

The other problem, across the whole phone is cursor placement, but that's a separate topic haha. I don't have big fingers and I still have to poke multiple times to get it where I want.

Ahh, text boxes, like in a reply... hmm. Let me work on that lol. I have smaller hands myself and I too have issues with proper cursor placement.

I was able to use the "Select Text" in a reply box such as these on the forums, while using Tapatalk.

However, I can not get it working within Dolphin. :(

Here I was thinking I had actually helped someone lol.

Where is cursor placement topic?

To be sure!
I do have big fingers and
Yes! I am having tremendous problems with this. No track pad. Why couldn't we have a keyboard with left and right arrows. On my WinMo phone we had a track pad or could use a stylus to position the cursor. Somewhere I remember reading there was a type of stylus that would do it, but that's something else to have to carry around. Need a keyboard with left and right arrows and also a Ctrl key like the old stock WinMo one had.
Something, anything. Please?
Right now if I have to correct one letter in a word I have typed I just about have to hit the backspace delete multiple times until I delete the wrong letter and then retype from there. I guess they figure predictive text eliminates the need for this but it does not.

If you Swype from the "Swype / Info" key (lower left) to the "SYM" key (just to the right of it) it will bring up a new keyboard screen that has arrows keys and even copy and paste buttons. It's not the speediest thing in the world but way less frustrating then pounding on the text box hoping the cursor will finally land in the right spot.

Obviously this is Swype specific, I've never used any other keyboard.

I'm probably in the 5% of people that doesn't like Swype, but maybe I could toggle back and forth, just when I need the arrow functionality. Good tip.

Thanks, Martian.

Wow, I guess I am going to make a renewed effort to learn to use Swype now!
Cool, that functionality is just what I was looking for!:D
