Anyone found a car charger that either fast charges or, even better, super charges?

Hi,
I have tested the chargers below. Didn't bother about using non-original cables except for one test, as I am well aware of the two extra pin issue for Samsung Supercharger cables. They are relatively easy to obtain in the UK whilst the Supercharger plugs are as rare as hen teeth. As expected. I got "Super Charge" displayed with the Huawei Supercharger plug. "Fast Charge" for the Huawei Quick Charge plug and "Charge" displayed for the Qualcomm chargers.

Aukey Qualcomm 3 car charger with original Huawei cable - 1680mA.
Samsung fast adaptive charger with Huawei original cable - 1760mA. (1720mA with an expensive substitute cable).
Huawei Quick Charger with original Huawei cable - 2780mA
Huawei Supercharger with original cable - usually around 3200mA.
As far as I am concerned, yes you can use Qualcomm chargers for the Mate 9. However, you are much better off using Huawei chargers. Whilst here in the UK, the Huawei Supercharger isn't available, the Huawei Quick chargers are available, cheap and offer a performance advantage over any Qualcomm chargers.

Cheers

Thats odd that your Aukey only got 1680. My Anker hits over 2000, highest Ive seen is 2400. Maybe it being a car charger is the difference. Definitely the Huawei chargers and cables are faster but you can still get some nice speeds from the QC 3.0 devices as long as you use a Huawei cable. Ill be very curious to see tomorrow if the Huawei Quick Charger I ordered shows fast charging on the lockscreen as Ive yet to find a charger that will even when getting fast charge speeds.

This is with that Aukey QC 3.0 car charger and its included cable in my Volkswagen.

I'll try it with the Aukey cable next time I get out in the car.

Hi Paul. You are getting the same result as me then. If you don't mind me asking, are you UK based? I wonder if the gear we are talking about is identical on both sides of the pond?

I am in the US. Arizona. Bought on Amazon.

Thanks Paul. I do wonder to what extent the existing charge level of the phone, has on the speed of charging. By that I mean, the mA will be higher if the mobile only has a 20% charge than if it is already charged to 90%. Frankly I don't have the time or patience to investigate. Perhaps someone here might.

From what Ive seen it definitely changes the mA depending on the level of battery. For instance, the other night I put my phone on at 90% to measure some cables and every setup I used was at 1040mA including the stock Huawei cable and block. If you charge at say 30% battery you will get the highest numbers possible.

After doing a factory reset this morning and getting the battery to 45% I decided to measure all my cables and blocks. Some of my results were vastly different than before the reset.

The numbers are where the meter was after 60 seconds of charging.

Anker 3.0 (Max 2.4a output) Generic Cable - 2260mA
Anker 3.0 (Max 2.4a output) Huawei Cable - 2310mA
Huawei Fast Charger Generic Cable - 3300mA
Huawei Fast Charger Huawei Cable - 3300mA
Huawei Super Charger Generic Cable - 2810mA
Huawei Super Charger Huawei Cable - 4510mA

The only block that made a significant difference with the Huawei cable vs generic cable was the SuperCharger block that comes with the phone. Based on those numbers Id say a QC 3.0 device will absolutely charge the phone at the rated speeds. On the anker charger it is near the top of the max output the charger can do.

Now the odd part. Yesterday I got my Huawei fast charger in and plugged it into the phone to see if it said fast charging and it didnt. I tried again last night before going to sleep and still it just said charging. This morning I reset my phone and during the meter tests the phone said fast charging. I turned off ampere and plugged the Huawei fast charger in again and it again says fast charging. Not sure why a reset caused it to finally show but it is there both with the huawei cable and the generic cable.

In the end, I'd get yourself a quickcharge 3.0 charger and any usb-c cable. If the charger is rated at 2+ amps output, you're going to get 2+ amps. While it may not say fast charging, it certainly is charging rather fast.

Thanks Tyler. Your efforts are appreciated!
On this side of the pond, personally I would advise buying the Huawei fast charger, which comes as a package with the original Huawei cable. To buy a good quality quick charge 3.0 plug and a decent compatible cable, is around the same price and has "less bang for the buck" so to speak.

Do you have a link to the car charger one? Ive found the wall adapter but cant find a genuine oem Huawei car charger even in fast charge. I wouldnt mind grabbing one but it seems over here we are severely limited.

Hi, The car charger, just like the super charger, is not available in the UK. You can get one from Ebay (Hong Kong dealer) for a ludicrous £40. Not sure what that is in $, but it will a lot!

Just about any electronic gear is going to be about 30-40% more expensive this side of the Pond. However, asking for £40 is really taking the ****! Like you, I will stick to what I have.

So, can anyone recommend the best charger/cable from Amazon with a link, please? I have the one that came in the box at work and would like one for home. I'm using my S7 Edge charger and that takes more than 2 hours to charge.

The one that was offered in the survey promo works excellent. It's a fast charger vs supercharger. $15 gets you a charger, cord, micro USB adapter and a super sweet selfie stick for all those high altitude selfies we all desire (the selfie stick portion is clearly sarcastic). The charger will do 3300mA which is darn good.

AH YES! OF COURSE! I need to check it again when I am at a lower charge level. Excellent point!

I bought a USB c with power delivery (pd) car charger and it triggers " fast charge" in my mate 9.(only in usb c pd not Qualcomm quick charge port)

It adds the second lighting bolt in the notification bar and also says "fast charging" on the lockscreen.

I took a couple of pictures that I am attaching.

Fast charging is not the same as the super charge correct?

It does charge the phone faster though.

I purchased this car charger and cable:charger

Now I have to decide if I buy ANOTHER car charger. I tried the Anker QC3 charger mentioned somewhere on here and it did nothing special (checked with Amp app).

Maybe it's my 2010 VW. What year is your car?
