this method works but it might screw up your device's Google Cloud Messaging (GCM) requiring a Hard Reset/Factory Fresh Wipe in order to fix GCM and Push Services (Gmail etc.). i like to do a hard reset after every Letter OS Update anyway. it worked for me on the second try. if you try it report back. here you go - good luck -

How to force Lollipop Update on your Nexus Device:
1. Go to Settings > Apps > All > Google play services > manage space >
clear data.
2. Go to Google Services framework > clear data > force stop.
3. Go to Settings > About phone > system updates (it should say last
checked in 1969)
4. Click on 'Check Now' & keep refreshing and it should push the
update to your phone if it doesn't work the first time keep trying.
It worked for me in the first go (Nexus 5)!!
Good Luck...

Force Android OS OTA Update
Weren't you the one spreading psa of not doing this? lol
yeah so? i did post the Google Engineer Dan Morrill comments and yes it can indeed break GCM. however i got so fed up with waiting for the update i gave it a shot and it worked. so yes it works - but - yes beware of what it breaks. if you are willing to do a hard reset it is much easier and less risky than doing a sideload IMO.
And you'd be waiting even longer. Only a small number of Moto phones have received the update as far as I know.UK Nexus 5. Still no update yet. Not sure how long these things go on for? They must be getting close to the final rounds of updates now? The irony is, I bought a Nexus so I never had to wait for the update. Should have gone with a Moto!

I have been tempted to do this the past couple days, but like you mentioned I really don't want all my notifications and such borked. But I'm sick of waiting also! Damned if you do, damned if you don't! Google really needs to rework its rollout procedures. If they are that uncertain that the update will mass corrupt devices, then just don't release it at all, and give it another month to iron it out. Then release it en mass to everyone at once. Cuz this waiting crap sure gets frustrating!
