anyone happy with the gear vr and note 5

You can use cardboard apps. There are two ways to do so. Both ways bypass the the automatic start of the Oculus app when you plug your device in.

1. When you place your device do not plug it into the micro USB plugin, rather place it behind the plug in. Then use a magnet to control your device. Videos of this technique can be found online.

2. Install Package Disabler Pro from Google Play Store on your phone, open it and scroll down to Gear VR service. Select it. Exit the app. Start the Cardboard app you want to use, plug the device in normally using the micro Usb plug. The TouchPad controls should work to control your device. If you want to revert back and have Oculus automatically start then go into Package Disabler Pro and unselect Gear VR service.

I like option 2 better because less chance of damaging the micro Usb plug or scratching your phone. And you don't have to mess with a magnet.

Lastly you can wear eyeglasses and still use the Gear VR, as long as the frames are small enough to fit inside it. Have fun.
