For the last couple days I'VE HAD TO YELL LIKE THIS TO GET ANYONE TO HEAR ME on my phone. ;)

When I try a voice recording, my voice is super low except when I talk very loudly it seems to work.

Anyone else experience this with their evo?

I have it at a sprint repair center right now. Hopefully they can fix it, if not, does anyone know how they will go about replacing the phone? Will they have to order one? Will I get a one from their stock?

The rep. at the store said they may be able to fix it but I've heard elsewhere that the mic is soldered onto the mobo and is not replaceable?

I'm definitley putting some of they breathable plastic medical tape over the speaker hole when this gets fixed.

I have only seen this issue when something gets inside the mic hole on the case or dust gets on the mic itself.

Well they are giving me a refurb. Should be here tomorrow.

Not too happy about it seeing I take good care of my stuff, hopefully the refurb will be good.

I am having the same issue with my EVO. My husband is always asking me to put the phone closer and stop moving it around. I'm not holding it away from me and I'm not moving it around. This morning a friend called and she could barely hear me. I'm NOT a quiet talker & I had to raise my voice. That's not something you can do everywhere you go. I was hoping others had experienced this as well and possibly had advice or a fix for it. Phone was a warranty replacement back in October and is out of the warranty period now.

According to the tech that worked on my phone, the mic is NOT repairable or replaceable as it is soldered directly to the main board.

See now that sucks about your phone being out of warranty. A manufacturer should at least have to warranty a refurbished phone for as long or longer than the original phones 1 year warranty. And that's the strongest leg you have to stand on.

Why should you be out of warranty just because your original phone was defective and they sent you a repaired unit? The EVO came out in July 2010 so all evo's, new or refurbished, should have a warranty period to at least july 2011.

I'm going to have to ask sprint about this when I pick mine up, hopefully today. Even though I'm going to add TEP.

I would seriously raise a fuss with htc and sprint about your issue, but not right away. I would just go into a repair center, pay the $35 to have them attempt a repair, and see what they say, play dumb about any past repairs. I bet they will order you a replacement. If they say it is out of warranty then raise a big fuss. IMO It is not ethical for them to shortchange you on the warranty just because you were unlucky enough to get a defective unit.

Good luck. Absolute worst case you will have to either buy a new phone or you can also get a bluetooth or wired headset. But bluetooth was so last year ;)

Try is first...download audio manager from the market.....it lets u control all the seperate volumes for the phone....see if that helps

I downloaded that app but I don't see any slider bars (with the free version) that will control the microphone, just sliders for the speaker components.

I was thinking my mic may be stuck in some kind of soft mute, because it will relay my voice if I am very loud, almost like the backround noise filter is stuck at an extreme setting, but I tried up to a soft reset and it didn't change anything.

I even looked in the hole with a stereo microscope here at work with a pretty high magnification, and I didn't see anything down in there. I'm sure now that I've poked around in there with a tool as well, there is no fixing it...But all the prodding I did, didn't make it any better or worse.

Thanks for the advice. I know it's a shot in the dark, but I will stop by a Sprint store to see if they can offer any help.

WOW they really boned me on this refurb.

The mic does work, but you can't charge it LOL, usb port is completely loose i think it might fall right out. So now my battery is dead...

Lets see what else, and I am not making this up:

scratches on the kickstand and camera bezel, they don't replace those obviously. The screen has a speck under it, and doesn't sit right at the bottom which causes light leakage. Oh wait I just pressed it back in with my fingernails, no more light leakage. A white spot on the screen, a haze underneath the screen, and it has triple the usage, data and calls, that my original phone had..

same version, 0003, but activated 6/30/10 = older than my original

Who the hell refurbs a phone and doesn't check the usb port...

So I called the store and they said to bring it back in to have their tech's see if they could fix it LOL. I asked them kindly if they could expedite my case and just order me another one which should only take a couple days, they refused, and I don;t want to take the chance of them being able to fix this beat up evo. So I called CS and after not too much resistance, they are sending me another refurb. directly. Goodness it's hard to get a new handset out of them.
