I'm wondering how the finish will hold up....is the color impregnated into the metal or is it coating?

If frost is the white one then yes I have it. The color is holding up ID say better than a few black ones I've seen.

It's holding up fine but I have a clear case on mine so that's to be expected.

Is it a coated surface

It's impossible to anodize aluminum white, so the frost color has to be be some sort of coating... but I own a black one so I can't tell you how well it holds up.

The black one is anodized?

I am Team Frosty and its held up wonderfully. I have it in a case 24/7 so no marks or scratches what so ever.

I had mine out of a case for a month or so (I've owned it since it was first released) and had no issues with the finish. It seems to be as beautiful today as the day I received it. I would have kept my phone out of a case but like having the added grip. My favorite case, from the ones I've tried, is the Spigen Hybrid clear case.

no its not coated. It feels metal just like the black and silver

Personally, I do think it feels "coated", at least in that it feels a bit different than the other colors. I bought it suspecting it may be a bit different (mentioned by a couple of the reviewers at Google's event) and absolutely love how it looks and feels.

I have a 64GB Frost and I absolutely love the color. It has a premium feel to it, not a plastic feel at all. I have mine in a case, so maybe my longevity is different than someone not using a case, but I've not seen any issues thus far with the color. It still looks, feels, and acts like new.

I will probably order a frost 128. Love the phone but I'm waiting on the HTC 10 to come out before I order. Still hate that I have to use third party visual voicemail and that I can't get wifi calling on Verizon.

A coworker has it and it definitely feels different than my silver. His has held up well and all he uses is a bumper case. He's had it about 4 months.

No concerns of longevity from him.

How is it different feeling than the silver? I just ordered the aluminum and it should be arriving Wednesday.

The closest I can think of is that it feels like matte vinyl. Obviously that's not what it is, but that's the easiest way to explain it.

Aluminum feels like what you expect if you've ever held an iPhone or HTC M7/M8.

Thanks for the reply. I expected it to be slippery and already ordered a very thin case because of it.

I have the 128 GB frost and I absolutely love it. I do agree that the finish doesn't exactly feel like metal; it sort of feels as if it might have a coating of some kind on it. I actually sort of like the feel. And, while it's not overly slippery (like my LG G2 was), it certainly isn't "grippy" either. I wanted so badly to "go naked" with this phone - because it's gorgeous - but have opted for a thin clear case, and I'm glad I did simply for the protection it's afforded during a couple of accidental drops. I've had the phone since November and it's still pretty pristine; no nicks or scratches but, as I said, I do keep it in a case about 90% of the time. I've been very happy with my choice. I especially like the sort of pearlescent sheen to the frost, and the contrast with the shiny chamfered edges. Hope that helps. Best of luck.
