Anyone having trouble with Video Rentals?

Hello,
Rented a movie from the Android Market, pinned (downloaded) it on my transformer went to watch it later and everything was going great until I had to pause. When I came back and hit play it would just keep buffering and not play. I had to get out of the movie and try starting it over to get it to work again. I never could get back to the same spot where i was. I ended up unpinning so could then watch on my computer.

Anyone else having trouble with video rentals? I'm running on 3.2.

Thanks,

Brett

I too had this issue. I had to back out and it offered to resume from the location I left off.

YES! I had a rented video pinned (downloaded) and I paused it after 20 minutes, and I gave up trying to get it restarted again. I rebooted, then tried to fast forward to the 20 minute mark and it froze again. Tried several times. Ended up rebooting one more time and just watching the first 20 minutes all over again. Then my husband started talking to me right at the end of the movie and I had to yell at him to be quiet because I couldn't pause the movie, LOL.

It was a real pain.

I haven't really messed with the movie rentals hardly at all but it sounds like from terminology of pinning it you have the option download the movie rental and watch offline? I'll be traveling next week and it would be nice to have a movie rental to watch while sitting in the airport or during my flight.

I really need to looking some of the apps on this thing more :p

Yes, you can download it and watch offline. It's just a pain to get it restarted after pausing.

Anyone try after they updated the Video app yesterday? I'm afraid to try it again, it was such a hassle to watch it, especially when you have a 5 month year old and have to take a lot of pause breaks. :)

I rented a movie over the weekend (pre-update), quickly found out that you can not use the HDMI out port to hook the tablet to a TV while doing this, the trailers work just fine but the movie itself is a no go. You get audio, just no video.

Also I tried to stream it and that was giant fail. It would sit there and buffer about every 3 minutes. I have a 7mb internet connection so that shouldn't be an issue. So I went back and downloaded it waited for it to get about 40% downloaded and started watching it, after that it went fine.

Too bad there isn't an Amazon VOD app.

I own a xoom and rent movies all the time. I have never had any problems pinning, pausing or with playback. My girlfriend owns a Transformer and she tried it out and its a complete fail on the Transformer....

like people stated above you have to watch the entire move without intruption or you will be foreced to start it over. Also, I am unalbe to watch the movie over HDMI. I can start the movie and watch it without the HDMI cable plugged in. If I plug in the HDMI and start the movie over the TV just goes black as well as the non-full screen video windo. I can hear the sound so i know the movie is playing. Is this a bug or is this intended as an anti piracy thing?

Same issue here as well. I was traveling and was watching a movie on one flight. Had to pause while changing flights then wanted to resume on the next flight. No luck. Ticked me off. Never saw the whole move as I had to start from the beginning again. Hope they can fix this or that it is only an issue with the Video playback app and not the transformer. That was one of the reasons I bought this - to watch videos on planes.

I had the same experience, after buying and downloading 5 movies for viewing during our flights. It took me a while to figure out that I could restart, but only from the beginning, and my attempts to move forward quickly were a bust.
I think we ended up seeing just a couple of them end-to-end before they expired. Definitely needs to be resolved if Amazon expects to be successful with this.

To add to this... is there any difference using Netflix vs. the video app that came with it? I downloaded the movie from Android market on the video app. I don't have a Netflix account. How does it work with Netflix? Do you see the same issue?

Netflix delivers via streaming only, and does not provide downloading/pinning of video files, so the issue doesn't exist. Of course with Netflix streaming, you can't playback when out of touch with the network. Netflix also is subscription-based, at $8/mo, so there are no rentals or purchases of movies or TV shows.
