I had the Fire since Christmas and its been tethering fine with open garden until last week when it just wouldn't connect. Sometimes it would connect for a few seconds and then disconnect again. Anyone else experiencing this? Any ideas on what i can do to properly tether my Kindle fire to my Thunderbolt?

I tried open garden, wifi tether and wireless tether, none work with the kindle. My bolt tethers to my laptop though just fine.

I assume you are rooted... last time I tethered was with a iPad2 and had no issues using Wifi Tether 2.0.7. What ROM are you using and what version of Wireless Tether did you use?

Well, you could also subscribe to the Verizon Mobile Hotspot service...but I digress...

First thing I would do is a simple reboot. Sometimes my tether won't work and that fixes it. If that didn't work? Next thing I'd do is uninstall all tether apps I have, reboot my phone, and then re-install the tether app I wanted to use and try it again.

Also, any chance you switched your phone over to "Rev A" during any of the Verizon data outages? I know in the past when I've done that some of my devices won't connect to tether anymore. If you don't know what I'm talking about, then just ignore this question.

I had a Fire tethered to my phone using Wireless Tether last weekend. It worked fine for the hour or less that it was being used like that.

works fine with mines. LTE kindle who needs a fancy 400 plus tablet. My opinion of course.

they make such a good couple...:D

So I can connect my Kindle Fire to the internet using my phones 4G connection? I have an HTC Rezound, what application should I get to tether? Do I need any application on my Fire too? I'm guess both my phone and Kindle need to be rooted?

My kindle was rooted. I just unrooted and am now using wireless tether and it seems to be ok now. I'm not sure what happened but fingers crossed that it sticks.

So what tether app are you using, can you give me a link? all you did was install this on your Kindle and its using your phones 4G to connect?

@budmonster: To be clear, you don't have to install anything on the Kindle. You just have to run some kind of tethering/mobile hotspot app on your phone and the Kindle will simply see it as a WiFi access point that it can connect to.

ps. Your Fire does not need to be rooted. Your phone doesn't, either, if you pay Verizon for Mobile HotSpot and use that.

If you want to violate your Verizon Terms of Service and use your phone for tethering without paying Verizon, then, AFAIK, the only way you can do that is to root your phone (but you still don't need to root your Fire).

i thought infrastructure and ad-hoc has something do with whether or not i can tether my kindle fire? so i just place this tether app on my phone and my kindle fire will use my phones 4g connection for internet, etc.?

Yes. Different phones seem to do things differently, but the Thunderbolt broadcasts an "infrastructure" wifi signal, so tablets like the KF should pick it up just fine. You do NOT have to root you KF or do anything like that. Your phone may be different story if you don't want to pay Verizon for Mobile Hotspot.

One caveat to that is I've noticed if I place my phone into Rev A mode, my Samsung tablet won't connect anymore. Not sure if this is because it changes the wifi mode to ad-hoc or not, or something else going on. If you're not sure what Rev A is, then you can probably just ignore this statement. You can check this link here if you want more info, but the default setting on the Thunderbolt is eHRPD.

Must be device specific. I've used the RevA mode many times without any issues with my Laptop. I was set on RevA for a long time without realizing it but didn't notice any issues with the MHS. When I noticed that I had left my phone on RevA from my last signal troubleshooting episode, I changed it back to eHRPD and it's been there for the last 2-3 months. MHS still fine, no change. Just FYI.

MHS works fine on Rev A for me too, with the exception that my Samsung tablet would not longer connect. Not sure why. My laptop still worked fine. When I switched it back to eHRPD it worked fine. May have just been the reboot that fixed, however -- figured I just pass that experience along for troubleshooting purposes though since it may not the be the type of thing people think to check.

i have an htc rezound but its the same principle right?

Right. If you can connect to the Starbucks hotspot (or any public Wifi) you should be able to connect to the Rezound/Thunderbolt Hotspot. Same thing, technically.

I rooted my TB and use Wifi Tether-not sure which version- to broadcast Wifi to my Kindle Fire. It works fine but my phone keeps timing out or something every ten to 15 minutes and then I have to stop tethering and restart. I did not pay Verizon for the mobile hotspot.

I also run a windows PC off the same phone at different times using Easy Tether pro and usb cable. It works flawlessly.

I like the Kindle Fire for some browsing and the PC for more in depth work.
BTW I am currently camped the last ten days in a state park so my wifi is totally thru the TB phone. Good Luck Rogerhttp://cdn-forums.androidcentral.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

yeah tethering seems to stop hear and that and i have to restart. or the connection will crawl at extremely slow speeds where i have to reboot. anyone know why this is going on? just part of the game?
