Anyone in regret yet ?

I came from a Palm Pre and dam this phone has it all. Yes u can't multitask like on the pre but if u think about it, with the fast processor that it has, its almost like havin the multitasking OS on the Evo. I work with phones all day and i have to admit besides it not coming with any accessories like the HD2 this phone, EVO, has to be one of the best phones on the market. Nothing comes close to touching this device....just putting my 2 cents in

831, I've been multi-tasking since I got it... what are you unable to multi-task with?

This is my first android phone and I've had it for 23 hours and I can tell you this.

Android is for do'ers, not people who need the phone to do it for them. Its about choice, YOU decide essentially exactly how you want your phone to be. Naturally that takes time to define and set up. This phone has SO many variables and options that it almost feels overwhelming until you realize that its really what you want, a device that can contour to your needs.

If you are a mindless drone that dances down the sidewalk while making sure your earphones are white so peopel think you are cool and can't be bothered to REALLY use a multimedia tech device, then please return to your iPhone.

In a world of iPhone users that don't. Android DOES

These forums need less of this stupidity.

Returning mine today... Like holding a cinder block to your head... Just to big to use as a phone.. Battery is no good...Android on it works very good though...

If you like everything else on the Evo, it might be worth grabbing a bluetooth headset and maybe checking out some ways to stretch out your battery life if you haven't already tried.

Agreed but I am not the type of person who wants to dowload a program for a new keyboard, one for my music to even get it on the sd card, another to sync my bookmarks etc. I also dislike having to manage tasks so the phone doesn't slow down. I downloaded a program for that.

I do like how Android is more open than Apple but I believe Android needs a stronger set of core programs before someone like me would want to switch to it. Plus a longer term worry is when will 2.2 be released and then how are the rest of the updates handled?

Too many issues and unknowns for me. I hope Android keeps improving because I appreciate competition. Honestly I think Android is improving faster than the Apple OS but I'm kind of locked into the Apple OS.

I agree with some of the issues you pointed out but I believe there might be some misunderstandings wrapped in some of your past comments.

1. I agree that the stop kb isn't as good as the iPhon e one. It tends to lag a bit more and seems less accurate. However, like someone metioned... you can download other kb that might be to you liking.

2. Android does require a task killer. Coming from a pre... I always thought that task killers were a requirement for Android from what I've heard in the past. This is not the case at all. Android dynamically closes programs that are running in the background that have not been used in a while. As a matter of fact, the using task killers will slow down your system. This is a little similar to the new system that Apple will use its iPhone 4.0 update.

3. Push notifications are just apples way of allowing programs to communicate info with users while not killing battery life as much. The notifications appear right in your face whenever they need to get your attention. On android programs funnel all their notifications to the shade at the top of the screen. There is usually some form of indication at the top the of your screen that let's you know it is time to check the shade (whatever its called).

4. There is a program called doubletwist that I hear is quite good at sending your music, podcasts and video onto your device. They all have an android app in the market which integrates pretty well with their way of doing things.

5. The dolphin hd browser from the market has synceable bookmarks with snappy widgets.

I think at the end of the end stall comes down to whether you like having too many options that you can tweak or whether you just everything to work somehow someway. I am a huge fan ofhow Android exposes all the little details of the OS to you. Then again I am a programmer that part of my inquisitive nature. Some of your comments led me to believe that you were confusing the differences in the android platform with bugs in their implementation. By writing this post I wanted to highlight some of the differences and provide some options as well. Hope that helped somewhat.

Later gator.

With the Pre i would be able to go from web surfing to typing a msg as quick as 2 movements but than again since im new to this android OS ill find out the shortcuts and all the goodies in no time. Just gotta get used to this new OS. Im coming from using palm for the past 3/4yrs so i gotta get used to this platform

Have you tried holding down the home key? It brings up your last 6 used apps. Using that I found I can switch apps as fast (if not faster) than my pre.

He is saying he can't multitask like he can on the pre, which is the king of multitask. Multitasking is a tiny bit more work on Android, but I don't mind. It's well worth it.

It depends on how you navigate, but leaving one program, going to another, and coming back to the first one without losing anything is multi-tasking. Android excels at this.

You may want to have a home screen with the apps that you switch between most often, then maybe you get your alert, hit home, tap the icon, there's two steps to get back to where you were.

I slightly regret not getting one of the Evos with the pre-installed InvisibleShield, but they wanted $32 extra for it. I'm all for having it pre-installed, but that's just way too expensive. Best Buy guy seemed a bit annoyed that he couldn't sell me on any accessories or the BB insurance. He looked at me funny when I asked for just TEP (because it has to be added at activation, but I can always cancel and go with BB instead within 30 days).

Just a friendly reminder to all, keep things civil and friendly please as I hate closing threads.

Thanks.

Just get the shields directly from Zagg.com. Sign up for the iPod giveaway contest and they will email you a 40% or 50% off coupon. ;)

The EVO is a better fit for me.

We'll see what HP/Palm does next. 2 phone form factors at this point is not helping for anyone wanting a larger phone and bigger keyboard. I have big hands and the keyboard was little too small for me from the get go. The screen is tiny and you have to do much more scrolling to view web pages. Yes we have had updates but nothing to keep me overly interested in the device. As a phone the Pre has been excellent, but Palm is looking a little stale at this point. New equipment and major OS upgrades should be at the one year mark and still no real news on what's next for Palm. They are still releasing a phone that is now a year old. The Palm Pre Plus is not much of an update to the original phone.

EVO is extremely fast, almost too fast and an easy transition from Web OS. Everything I expected to get out of my Palm Pre I got in my EVO and so much more.

One of my favorite features from my Instinct days is back.... visual voice mail!
Much better camera and software to control the photo and what you can do with it.
All the news apps and twitter apps are the same.
Wi-Fi is almost instant now. Zero lag.
Bluetooth connectivity with Car is awesome. Especially Bluetooth audio!
Phone quality is excellent in and out of the car.
HTC Sync works great with Outlook 2010 out of the box
Expanded my MicroSD card to 16gb

So a bigger screen makes a huge difference for cruising the web and reading your apps. And oh yes Flash does work out of the box with the HTC web browser. You can view the web exactly the way web designers intended you to see it.

And you have zero lag time opening apps...zero! This thing is just simply fast!

I look at it like this...

The instinct was supposed to be the phone to be on par with iPhone. Oh how misleading was that.
Then we got Pre. We got what we thought we were supposed to get on the instinct.
Then we get the Pre and features that we liked such as Visual Voice Mail were removed.
Features that should have been in the phone from day one trickled out over the following 6 to 9 months.
Now the EVO is here and we get exactly what we were promised, a phone that has everything you could ever want and fast.

How we use are devices are up to us and if the device does not fit our needs or do what we want it's easy to move on and try something else. It comes down to choice! And that's a good thing. Keep the iPhone on AT&T! I want my HTC and Palm devices on Sprint!

So now Palm Pre V1.0 you’re relegated to a clock on my desk. I’ll miss you touchstone…not really.

I will still be watching you Palm. Until we meet again, good luck, I hope to see great things from you in the very near future!

P.S. Oreo’s are better with milk.

Push notifications? Are you coming from an iPhone? Push notifications as I understand was Apples way of getting around mulitasking and background apps on the iPhone OS. android multitasks and runs background apps so there is no need for a push notification if you are running the app in the background.

Battery has been fine, I expected a device like this to eat up juice but it has exceeded my expectations so far. Haven't bothered with a task killer yet.

X2... pretty much sums it all up.

I'm definitely not regretting my purchase. I love customization.

And coming from a pre.. this battery is awesome. I've been on this phone nonstop for 3 hours so far.. streaming music, downloading apps, twittering, Facebooking, ect... all without WiFi in mediocre 3G coverage area.. and I STILL have about 35% battery left. my pre would only last about 1.5 hours when I did the same test.

Things I don't like?
The learning curve of Android OS.. and the stock Android keyboard.
