Anyone know how to get the black bar at the bottom of apps to go away?

This is where google needs to get more apple like and put a hardline date on dev's to update or get pulled.

Yeah. I really hope people direct their displeasure towards the app developers and request them to update their apps. There's not much HTC can do if it's already following the latest guidelines, and the devs aren't updating their apps.

Agreed. Devs will probably move at a slower pace since Samsung's devices still come with a dedicated menu key. But eventually, most apps will be updated. I would also expect to see a lot of updates coming around when new nexus is getting ready to come out as developers will probably want to refine for the new phone. If it bothers people, they should just go rate the app in the play store and be heard.

Yup. Do the Google apps have the bar too? Are there any apps that actually conform to the latest guidelines?

There are a lot of apps (including all google apps) that do conform. Less than half the apps I use have the bar, and most of the ones that do are either low budget or old.

The Google apps do not have the separate bar. The menu button is embedded into an existing bar of the app which is what they should do. So no issues with them. Also apps like eBay and dropbox don't have it but facebook and AC does.

I agree. This is one of things that come with an open platform. Devs can do a lot and not abide but ALL recommended guidelines. iOS saw this as well when Apple came out with the Retina display do developers had to update their apps so it's something comes a long with changing standards. The difference is that Apple makes developers update and change and Google probably doesn't care as much. And for developers they always have to adjust their apps to different variations of Android device hardware so they're probably tired of modifying appsand they'll get to it when they feel like it since Google isn't making them do so LOL.

Sorry for the issues, didn't realize so many posts had addressed this issue.

Other than Facebook, can someone list other major apps that have this issue?

And more importantly, the Nexus 4 doesn't have a dedicated menu button and doesn't have this issue. Why then does the HTO have it?

I really haven't noticed a black bar at the bottom of any app. Sometimes something pops up and then goes away quickly. It's that what you mean?

theres a mod over on XDA you can flash that removes this..if you are rooted..and allows a long press of the back button to bring up menu options

Because the Nexus devices already have a black bar containing the three normal buttons (Back, Home, Multi-task) - the three dots appear in the corner of that bar when required.

Yes I no longer have it on any app. Unlock the bootloader, root it, download MoDaCo and then there are settings within there to get rid of it - there are also several other great tweaks but I won't go into it as it is done so here

Ya I thought it was set in the Google guidelines. Now they need to enforce it

When you update to 4.2.2, when your carrier rolls it out: it includes a "black bar"fix..
It's listed in the bug fixes.

Already a way to remove it guys.

Must have unlocked boot loader custom recovery and be rooted.

Rooting is not the answer to everything. I wish you would stop clogging up the forums telling everyone to root. You act like you want a trophy or some recognition because you root. Unless you have anything beneficial to add besides your trolling comments to root, please stop posting

On my evo lte HTC sent a patch allowing us to long press the home button and it would act as a menu button thus getting rid of the three dots. Makes no sense as to why they couldn't continue that setting on their newer devices. I hear the 4.2.2 update brings that back though.
