Anyone know? I hope it's not a Pentile display..

I really really hope it's not the same display the Atrix uses.. Here's hoping to an LCD RGB display.

Nothing that I've seen says one way or the other for sure. All I've seen is just speculation that it does have a pentile display, particularly since the Atrix does. I did find sources though that said that it's better on the battery. So, maybe there's some tradeoff between the display and battery life.

If you've seen the display on the Droid/DroidX and then look at a LCD Pentile display, you instantly tell the difference.

LCD Pentile displays give you good coloring like the AMOLED(also Pentile displays) but you lose crispness, even though it's a higher pixel density, the pixel arrangement is different and you skip colors.

RGB displays are red-green-blue-red-green-blue whereas Pentile is red-green-blue-green-red-green-blue-green.

I have an Atrix and DroidX and the display on the DX is crisper while the display on the Atrix has better colors. I'd rather have the crispness.. =(

Here's a great article on it,

Here's a good comparison:

I haven't personally held both in my hand to compare firsthand. But, from the images in the above reference, there's clearly a difference. What's interesting though is why the change? And that's something that the article ponders as well, particularly since the DX and D2 (obviously both Motorolas) had the LCD RGB displays. With the lack of definitive proof (at least that I've seen), I too hope that Motorola decides to stay away from the pentile display for the Bionic.

Well from what the article says, Motorola chose Pentile because it's less costly, and throwing in another 512 MB ram could be the offset.

I would really love to see they used a regular RGB LCD display in the Bionic.

I'm so used to seeing RGB that when I see Pentile, it looks funny to me, it doesn't look correct.

You can't guarantee the same screen due to the Atrix being only 4" and the Bionic will be 4.3".

I really wish they would give us a similar screen to the Droid 2 just of course qHD and 4.3", 1773:1 Contrast ratio and IPS look awesome.
