Someone beat me to it...
Most ROM creators should include instructions on how to flash when they post the ROM for download.
In recovery.. there is an option for Backup and Restore... Make a BACKUP in RECOVERY, this will take a min but backup everything and you will be safe if you accidentally mess up flashing a bad ROM.thanks guys, i guess i got all of that, doesnt seem to hard. all i need now is to understand how to make a backup.
theres nand and titanium backup and im all mixed up. ill continue reading....

you flash a kernel the same way you would a ROM. within recovery, unless otherwise stated on the thread you download it from. The kernel is backed up within the recovery tool with your ROM. So if you backup without a custom kernel then it will be stock. Also do check the ROM build because some come with custom kernels already. Hope this helpsAnything different for the custom kernel process?
would that also be from inside TWRP - flash zip ?
is your kernel in the full backup or outside of it hidden somewhere?
just want to be sure before I jump to the next step.
many thanks from a Android newb
