I was curious if anyone has been using the flip3 with out a screen protector, mine has been cracking in the fold and is steadily getting worse.. ive called the ubreakifix locations in tulsa and they cant give me any price quotes or connect me with a technician.

Was just wondering if anyone had taken the original protector off and used it that way, and if so have there been any adverse effects.

Oh, no! How awful! From what I can recall of similar posts, I know some users kept the factory-installed screen protector on their devices. Hopefully more users chime in with feedback for you!

Please keep us posted on what happens!

I have an appointment tomorrow at the ubreakifix in Tulsa to get the protector changed.. it's no charge. hopefully it go better than last time i was there for a screen replacement on my note 9 i had.

The screen itself is just a super thin layer of glass on a flexible backing... the glass is almost non-existent. I wouldn't feel comfortable using it without a protector. I watched Zach's YouTube channel JerryRigEverything where he took the Flip 3 apart, and without the protector almost anything was able to damage the screen  It is literally paper thin.

Original is still one. Honestly if one keeps the flip folded, the chances of damaging the screen protector is very minimal. Unlike candybar slabs, the screen on the folded flip isn't vulnerable to falls or dirt from pockets etc due to it being folded when not in use.

I get the impression from the posts I've read that the cracking in the screen protector is coming from the stress of repeated folding and unfolding. I wonder if local humidity has anything to do with the cracks (is the screen protector more likely to crack in very dry environments?).

I haven't messed wth mine. Seemed best to leave OEM stuff alone. What happened at ubreakifix?

I was wondering what would happen if you used it in wintery conditions... most things get stiffer and more brittle the colder they get. I watched a video of someone who said their Flip cracked the first time they opened it, straight out of the box. They had still shots of the phone after the crack... they said they heard a "cracking" noise when they opened it, and wondered if the cold room temperature was the cause. But they also said they "flipped" it open ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Like you said in another thread though, the fact we even have to worry about things like that puts a damper on people's willingness to take a chance on folding phones. That and Samsungs unwillingness to stand behind the warranty on the phones :-\

He had an inept tech work on his phone if I remember right, and they screwed up the screen replacement and damaged the phone, and refused to fix it until he got the higher ups involved. It was the typical battle to get them to do the right thing :-\

My OG screen protector is still intact but is developing a crack after almost about 8months now.Got it at launch. Does Samsung warranty cover this or will it be out of pocket? I'm with Rogers Wireless in Canada!

Yep... the 8 month mark, that seems to be the average for the screen issues to start. It seems like it's hit or miss with Samsung on replacing the screen protector, but mostly miss if you need the screen replaced under warranty  All you can do is ask. From what I've read it seems like the protector is pretty cheap to have replaced, but I would look really close to be sure it's not the screen cracking under the protector. Folks have had the repair shop tell them once they got the protector off that it needed a new screen.

I would contact Samsung just in case.

I think if you do that......doesn't that voids the warranty!? I'm curious as well?

After about 8months daily use my own screen protector is showing a crack line. Got the ZF3 at launch,

I had mine replaced after 14 months for 50 dollars and 1 month later it bubbled at the fold. I won't go back to ubreakitifix for 50 bucks so I just took it off and will take my chances. It's folded when in my pocket. So far no problem.

Welcome to AC!
Should look into White Stone Dome protector

I bought my Z flip 4 from the Telstra shop in Canelands shopping complex in Mackay in August, 2022. It had a 2-year warranty. By March, 2023, I noticed a grey smudge creeping across the crease from right to left. This completely involved the crease by April. I could see that the screen protector had come off the screen along the crease.
I took it to the Telstra shop, where i found that the boundless enthusiasm to sell me the phone had been replaced by complete indifference. This is what happened...
• The arrogant prick of a manager told me that it was a screen fault, and that there was NO screen protector, even though you could see where it lifted. You can also see it at the screen camera cut-out.
Now get this.
• Arrogant disinterested manager said I had 3 options:-
1. Buy a new phone at a discounted price of $900.
2. Have the screen repaired repaired for $900.
3. Leave the store!

I think i said something uncomplementary about both him and his service, and, after being admonished for using "profanity" in his store, I left.
I sent the z flip 4 to Samsung, for a free screen protector replacement (anything else, I was told, would void the warranty).
A week later, I had it back as good as new. Samsung give 2 free screen protectors in first 2 years.
December, 2023. Screen protector lifting off crease again, with a grey smudge across the crease.
This time, I pulled the screen protector off, very easily done, and have been using the phone without s screen protector ever since.
So, after 3 weeks, there are no marks at all on the screen, and it works perfectly.
I told a phone dept manager at Harvey Norman about the Telstra debacle and he told me that, had I bought it at HN store, they would have sent it to Samsung for me, and provided a replacement phone until I got mine back.

Lesson learned...
1.Do NOT buy anything from the Telstra store at Canelands in Mackay.
2. The phone is fine without a screen protector. I'll do another report after 6 months, and advise progress.

I hope this helps.

It's now 5 weeks since I removed the screen protector from my Samsung Galaxy Z flip 4. No marks on screen at all so far, and it works perfectly.
I think I open and close it about 50 times a day.
