Hi all

Im in a bit of a dilema, Ive just bought my 2nd new G4 (S/N: 512), but like my 1st one which i returned, Im not really happy with the images of the camera, i find that they are a little over-processed, quite noisey and look a liitle fake, yet the earlier one I owned a few months ago, was not as bad as this, so I wonder if LG have made some hardware changes along with the new motherboard upgrades.

The shop i bought it from has a 30 day return policy, so if i do return it... I was considering the Xperia Z3 (not the Z3+/Z4), I mainly buy my devices for Media.. Photos, music, and video.. and now that the Z3, like the G4, has had a few upates.. It seems very tempting.

Im just not sure if its me being too critical and picky or these G4s have different cameras..

Your opinions would be appreciated..Pic1.jpg

I see no problems with your G4 photos, to the extent that the low-res images here permit judgement.
Sorry, I've never owned a Z3.

Apologies, I thought ide added the cropped image.. I may run a few more tests in different lighting as well, but this to me, looks awful..

Well, I don't know, that's quite a lot of crop. The G4 has one of the best cameras, and some might say the best, on an Android device. Are you saying that your own specimen seems faulty, or that you don't like the G4's way of doing things?
Long ago, I started the thread linked below, and there are other camera comparisons in this forum.

The reason Im asking this question is because I used to own a G4 months ago before it Bootlooped, and the images werent quite so "mushy" and soft edges and had a bit more detail when cropping in than these ones ive taken today on my new G4... However, the pics were taken at about 5pm, when the sun was lower in the sky giving quite soft shadiows.. so im considering this now as well.

Thats a great thread. Thanks for the link :).. After doing a little reading around the web, I really dont think Im giving the G4 a fair shot, so I think ill stick with it for the moment and look deeper at the manual mode. I do know that the G4 tends to use a very low ISO setting, even as low as 50, which can give the image a very soft halo effect, especially in Sunlight.. very much like my images above . :)

Looking at the G4 Pictures threads both on here an XDA, the images do look very similar so Its not faulty, but its a question of whether I can live with these images or theyre just not my style

So Im going to hang on to it for a while and see how i get on :)

You could try taking the pic in manual raw format and crop it in raw. It will probably take out some of the noise. I am not sure why you want to go to the Z3. The Z3 is not known for its pic quality! It is great at 2 things.. Screen On battery life and Waterproof. :p

My brother's Samsung S6 takes better pictures than my G4 on backlight conditions. Whenever we took pics inside with a person sitting in front of the window, his pictures will turn out perfect. I tried everything including manual and HDR but nothing come out as great as his. He said because the S6 sensor has a better dynamic range whatever that means...

Thanks for the replies... after taking the images above and trying the Raw setting it was awful as well.. so I did return the G4 but got another G4.. and the images are MUCH better, even in jpeg, so I reckon it was a faulty sensor over-exposing everything..

I did try a Z3 and I must admit, even though SONY still dont support WMA Lossless, the headphone audio can often better on the SONY but to change from G4 to Z3 was was gonna cost me an axtra £20, and i thought the camera was no where near as good, especially Manual mode... I must admit 95% of my G4 images are awesome compared to about 50% of the Z3s... However, I do like the stereo speakers and SONYs UI, but Theme and Icon packs can change the look of LGs slightly dull UX4.

So in the end.. I just couldnt let go of my awesome G4, I do love this phone....and IMO alongside the HTC one M8, it is one of the greatest devices ever made, and, even better, my new G4 is a S/N: 620

Ill post some images up when I get a chance, but for now.. its good to be back :)
