Anyone really disappointed the base model is 64gb storage?

After seeing the announcement of the lack of support for all photos in original format.... 64 gigs is a bit too small. It is strange how context really changes everything?
I knew you would see the light eventually lol. Taking that away and keep base at 64gb is NUTS.

64GB isn't "cheaper" they are just sticking small storage at a premium price and you pay for it. Doesn't even matter if people use it or not.
This is so true. I can live with 64, but it requires constant maintenance. It costs them next to nothing to make the base 128 GB. This is better than when the options were 32 GB and 128 GB (the first two Pixels), though.

I personally would get the 128 and be done. Such as with my iPhone I went 256 since that was the next. For me I want more then the 64 -- but I know that majority of users can't fill 64 or won't. Not from their day to day use.

Some people need more memory because they don't have unlimited data for music streaming etc. That's my situation. So I put a lot of my music library onto the phone so I need more than 64 gigs. But it is different for every user. Some need more, some need less.

I cleaned this thread a bit. Keep the discussion civil and on point.

64 is fine for me, had that on the 2 XL never needed to make space or delete something, gotta love the cloud.

That being said, it was a bad call by Google. Many people will not consider the phone and have different storage needs then I do. Storage, Ram and Battery all need on boost on the next phone...

I probably could get by on 64gb but have always went with the 128gb .
I rather have more ,,,,,then not enough.
Also things can change from the day I purchase a phone until the day I update again.

I'm in the same boat. 64 was fine for me. I got close to using all the space. I was at around 75% used after 2 years of photos and apps. I grabbed a 64 Pixel 4xl and it should be fine for another 2 years.

It is not just about the plan, I have a 50gb plan but the service on my daily commute is so bad I’d be buffering all the way. Also in the UK high density areas like train stations may have coverage but usually are over capacity too.

Personally though I just prefer to download the bulk of my music, old school maybe. Right now videos are not even a consideration for streaming (other than maybe a short ish YouTube one) so I also need some space for the odd episode or two from Netflix amazon or sky.

Not only is it starting at 64GB, but there may be a $100 price hike from the previous generation: https://9to5google.com/2019/10/12/pixel-4-xl-pricing-report/

Google doesn't want these to sell well. Again.

And they won't... again, until Google drops the price $300 half way through the year (again) like the pixel 3's to get them moving. As much as I like the pixel experience, Google seems to have no idea how to manufacture and sell "flagship" phones successfully. Or hardware in general for that matter :O

Like Pavlovs dogs, consumers (in general) have gone from expecting to pay around 500 to well over 1000 in just a couple of years now without walking away with their money, and instead come running .
Once all the mfrs saw Apple get away with it, every decent phone has raised their price to an outrageous level.
There are Galaxy S7s being sold for 99 new. How can Samsung justify a grand for a S10.
Same goes for Apple and Google.
Don't ask what I think about pre-ordering 1 of these special phones. I'm so over it.

I've never paid more than $500 for a flagship phone and never will. I get what I want and enjoy it with no regrets. It takes a little more patience and self control but it can easily be done ;-)

In fact I enjoy the bargain chase and purchase way more than I would bending over for the lube job of owning a ridiculously priced flagship at launch.
