Anyone see this new way to root?

Yes sir, i un-rooted successfully, the other thread is floating around some where. I might come up with a step by step if need be.

And after you hack the phone, install something called "clockwork mod rom mannager" from the market.

download and save the EVOlution v8 in the root of your sd card from the XDA forums. Its the best (IMO) 2.2 rom out there for now.

In clockwork rom, press the button that says reboot into recovery.

go to the nandroid option. Back up your phone.

Then go into the flash zip from sd card option. you may have to reboot and repeat the reboot into recovery process. Select that v8 zip, and let it do its magic.

Easy huh?

How come you keep un-rooting? Any reason in particular?

by backing My nandroid that will save me in case of any brick, or anything going wrong?

and what rom do any once recommend? and why?

liquidjesus ok thanks
and as of now what is the best way for you to root the evo?
is this program good ( i have 2 more evo to root my 2 bother evo and i was wondering if this program will get the job done the right way?)

For users who simply want to be able to quickly root their evo's and aren't technologically experienced, i would recommend simpleroot. It quickly and effectively roots the phone through a easy to use graphical interface, as well as provides youtube video to accompany it. Essentially making it impossible to mess up.

If you want to root your evo's, while getting a better feel for coding and the adb commands that were used to root the evo originally, and that are all happening behind the screens of the simpleroot. Use one of the methods that is stickied above. Its a bit more complex (or fun), but if done incorrectly, can prolong your rooting process.

Either way, the goal of both is the same. Root access to the phone, and nandroid backup/recovery.

Ok so I unzipped the folder to my desktop, plugged my phone in via usb cable. I hit step 1 and it goes to command prompt, it says its starting then it goes to a red screen and says hit any key to continue, when I do it takes me back to the menu with the 3 steps.

I'm really ready to throw this phone out the window, rooting shouldn't be this difficult.

Any ideas anyone? Should I put a different sd card in maybe?

woah woah, did you click on the youtube links.

your phone should be at a white screen, just confirm everything it propts you to on the phone.

After step one, you go click on step 2.

and then step 3...

[Rant] Look, this is the easyest method to root. But if you've never rooted before, and don't want to follow directions, it going to be more difficult than it has to be.

And rooting should be difficult! thats why its rooting. Don't be naive because some one made it easy and took all of the grunt work out for you.

The features that root gives you are not allowed oem. This is why it takes some effort to access them. If you think clicking on the buttons and watching the videos on you tube is difficult, than root isn't for you. Think about all the people who had to do this via adb before you, and all the people who wrote the guide before them. You cant expect to get all the results without putting in a bit of elbow grease. [/Rant]

This is what I'm doing:

Plug the phone into three computer using the mini usb,i open the icon that looks like an evo, click on step 1 and the computer opens up the command prompt. My phone does not go to the white screen, three cmd screen goes red and says "hit any key to continue" , out then takes me back to the program with the 3 steps.

I'm doing everything according to the directions and still nada, its quite frustrating

Doc, you have htc sync installed on your computer correct???? It isn't used, but seems like it's required for most rooting procedures. I believe I hooked my phone up and selected htc sync.

I also recall that for some reason, step one wasn't pushing the zip file over for me, for some odd reason....

you might have better luck doing what I did....
-connect the phone as disc drive
-put the plain PC36img zip file (it's in the simpleroot folder or you probably have a copy on your computer still from your past attempts) on the root of your sd card
-reboot into bootloader holding volume down and then you'll be right where step one puts the keys in your hands (do update...volume up.... do reboot, volume up)

then you can proceed onto step 2 by just clicking on the simpleroot's button.

After I did step one manually, the next two steps worked fine for me.

Hmmm i see. i just had the same issue. Where are you files saved?

[edit] duh.... i didn't have USB Debugging enabled. Do you O_o

PS: Read the red screens, they are important too.

Usb debugging is enabled, files r saved to the desktop. When I extracted the file it saved it to a new folder.

Are you on a network with roaming profiles or redirected folders?? I recommend putting everything on the your c drive anyway. but this could be an issue.

Also. take that exe that looks like an evo. and make a copy of it. (right click > copy)

Replace the original with this copy. I heard some people that were on on 32 bit machines used this to fix some issues.

Do you have the SDK downloaded and installed, i dont think you need it for this method but it couldn't hurt. Worst case you can download it, and then follow the original instructions stickied.

Sorry bud.

Ok I think I'm rooted, how can I tell for sure?

Also, what's the easiest way to load baked snack rom?

If you did step 3, then install clockwork mod from the market. There is a button on there that says reboot into recovery. From there there should be an option to install .zip for SD card. Select whichever Rom you have saved.

Edit: in clockwork app, you cab just hit, "install Rom from SD card."
