Anyone think the back of the Evo looks like one huge hunk of cheap plastic?

I've been really looking at pics and videos and it's really starting to worry me that the back is just one huge piece of cheap plastic. And boy oh boy does it look like it in the videos and pics..

Anyone else a little worried?

I'm not worried at all. The second that I get my EVO, I'm slappin an InvisibleShield on it, just like I did with my Hero. Problem solved

That pic does make it seem big, but I think it's the effect of lighting/camera angle. I've played with the t-mobile HD2, which is maybe 1-2 mm thinner, but the same dimensions otherwise.

Something about the look of the device from the front makes it look like cheap plastic to me. Though it seems like everyone that has seen it in person has come away impressed with the hardware fit and finish. So I'm guessing it looks much better in person. Now as far as the back goes: looks fine to me. That's not cheap plastic you're seeing. Rather, it's a soft touch rubbery coating that doesn't photograph particularly well.

I had the Incredible for a couple of weeks and the grippy plastic back felt very flimsy when detached, but it felt great when it was on the phone.

Its funny that you mention the front half of the device (the glossy plastic part or bezel). Alot of reviewers of the incredible mentioned that the front felt kind of cheap, and had a plasticky feel to it which wasnt indicative of a high end device. I hope the EVO doesn't feel like this! Everything else looks great though, especially the reported "heft" of the phone. At 6 ounces it should have a nice weighty quality feel to it like the droid...hopefully

Yeah the EVO is .04oz heavier than the Droid. The Droid definately has a heft to it, that I'm sure the EVO will also have at that weight.

The back is ok to me, but I'm sure will get a thin snap on case like the Casemate Barely There or the Seidio Snap once availiable.

Whats the failing about it? It was a simple question that I think a lot of people would love to hear opinions about. A lot of people have stressed their opinions and gave facts which at least set me at ease.

If OP does not like the look, go get an iphone. Geez, the things people complain about. Here we have the world's best phone about to be released and here comes the nitpicking about the back of the phone.
