Anyone using a Portable Charger?

Looking at possibly getting a portable charger. I would probably want it to weigh in at a pound or less. I am thinking about having it for loss of power / storms. If I charge it up, how long will it hold its charge without use? If I charged it today, and put it away, would it be able to charge my device after 6 months?

Any recommendations on which one I should get for my note 7? Thinking of after replacement not before. I would want a faster charge.

Thanks for any advice.

If you mean a USB battery pack, then I have used different ones for many years. The Anker E3 10k mah pack I use now is about the size of 2 iPhone 5's stacked on top of each other, and 8.2 ounces.

I used to use a short (12") right-angle microUSB cable for my older phones, and the cable was thin enough that I could loop it once and still be comfortable in a pocket with the battery and phone. But since USB-C cables are thicker (though they do make short ones) they don't bend as easily and don't fit as nicely in a pocket with the battery.

Also, while my Anker battery will top off my Nexus 6P almost as fast as the official charger, it takes a long time (4-6 hours) for the pack itself to charge. I think most 'smart' battery packs put out juice faster than they can take juice in. Just get one with good reviews, and check the size and weight of it so it's a bit smaller than the phone if you want to pocket it and charge. Anker is among the good brands.

(Check TechMate for a good 1 foot USB to C cable, mine has been good for almost a year)

Hope this helps!

There are quite few on Amazon. There is Samsung's 5200 ma and 10000 ma fast chargers for example.

I use an Aukey 20,000mah charger which charges really fast and lasts really long I love it
Personally, if getting a portable charger then minimum should be 10,000mah

The main thing I am wondering is how long will they hold their charge...Any idea? If I charge it today and put it away, will it be able to charge my device after a month or 6?

I use this one. Charge it and put it away for a few months at the time. Still charged when I've needed it. It also has lights to show its current charge level, makes it easy to check it's charge after a few months.

[One of the Most Powerful 10000mAh Power Bank] Anker PowerCore+ 10050 Premium Aluminum Portable Battery Charger with Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 Technology https://www.amazon.com/dp/B013HSQXZ...ag=hawk-future-20&ascsubtag=UUacUvbUpU5399100

It will charge the Note 7 twice with no issue on one full charge.

What is your planned usage for the battery pack?
-Quick top-off for a long day outside? (lightweight keychain or thin pocket pack around 2k-4k mah)
-Something to toss in a briefcase or backpack to top off things during the week when you need to? (10k-20k name brand pack)
-To put in luggage for trips when you may be away from an outlet? (10-20k pack for your day backpack, do you need an international wall charger to recharge the pack in the hotel room?)
-Something for the car glove box for emergency power? (can it take the extreme heat or cold of a car's interior?)
-To put in an prepper 'go bag' in case of a natural disaster? (will the weight of a huge pack be better used for other items?)

A good Li-ion pack should hold (most of) it's charge for a couple of months. Less so if it has had many recharge cycles. (like my 5 year old packs)

If you need power when away from a power outlet for a log time, consider getting a good battery pack and a solar charger. Companies like GoalZero make their business doing solar and portable charging.

For 50 bucks, here's an Anker solar cell that (says it) is weatherproof, 12 ounces, and can be unfolded and strapped to your backpack to charge your phone when you hike.
