Anyone using any 'replacement' apps? Like Swiftkeys, camera, etc?

Re: Anyone using any 'replacement' apps? Like Swiftkeys, camera,

Hi and welcome to the forums. Im not to much of an aftermarket keyboard app using guy, so Im sticking with the ICS keyboard right now since it seems to be fine for me. If your into Swype, I hear there working on a beta to come out by the end of the month for ICS. So you can be on the look out for that. Never used aftermarket camera apps honestly. Im suprised with ICS. Everything Stock seems to be pretty top notch in my book.

Again welcome!

You have truly horrible grammar. Damn.

Re: Anyone using any 'replacement' apps? Like Swiftkeys, camera,

I'm using Swype as well. Really like it on my Bionic I had brieftly, was glad to see the dev community was able to get it working for Gnex ahead of the "official" beta version being released. Tried SwiftKey X when it as $.10, but kept trying to Swype half the time when texting lol.

Where do you get the themes for Swype?? I don't even see an option to select those in the settings menu for the Swype keyboard.....

Just download whichever theme/themes you want, then use root explore to find the file and click install.

Re: Anyone using any 'replacement' apps? Like Swiftkeys, camera,

ICS Browser Plus replaces the stock Browser
Beautiful Widgets replaces my Analog Clock
MX Video player replaces the stock player
Widgetsoid replaces my stock Power control widget

Screen Adjuster corrects my screen which I noticed to have a green hue
Lightflow adds functionality to the LED light
Equalizer improves the volume of the speaker

With all of these add-ons and the number of other apps which add their own features this phone is beyond perfect.

Re: Anyone using any 'replacement' apps? Like Swiftkeys, camera,

SwiftkeyX - Although the stock voice dictation is far better than Swiftkey's. If you're finding yourself using the voice dictation function more and more, probably best to stick with stock kb.

I have Vignette and Paper Camera in a folder on the home screen with the stock camera but primarily use stock.

Nixed the clock for a HD Widget clock/weather widget.

You do not need a Vignette app.
Open up the gallery, select your picture, hit the 3 dots, hit edit, then go to effects and select Vignette. You can adjust the amount of vignetting from the image editor built into ICS and it will save a new copy to you edited folder.

The built in editing features are nice, but Vignette (the app) is about way more than just vignetting (the effect). That said, I've switched to CameraZoom FX -- the controls are better and the effects options are more extensive. But 90% of the time I just use the stock app since its so much faster.

I use:
Extended Control Widget to replace the stock power control widget.
Amazon MP3 for Music
QQPlayer for Video (because it plays everything)

I forgot about this one. First used it on my Nook Color. Great replacement for the video player and I like the onscreen controls.

SwiftKey X and Lightflow are excellent.

Re: Anyone using any 'replacement' apps? Like Swiftkeys, camera,

For post-shot photo enhancer nothing I've tried beats Photo Enhance Pro. It takes an ordinary shot and makes it much better. It doesn't do a lot of odd things like many others, it just makes your photo look a lot better. Kinda like "I'm feeling lucky" in Picasa on a PC.

For odd special effects I use Camera 360. The High Dynamic Range (HDR) options are fantastic. This app is also a camera.

Re: Anyone using any 'replacement' apps? Like Swiftkeys, camera,

I bought Swiftkey X during the Google anniversary sale. It was so awesome I had everyone I know get it. The auto-correct on the Thunderbolt was so horrible it drove me crazy. My only sanity was the Nexus and now Swiftkey X. :D

The OG Droids camera App was horrible for the first six months I had it. I only made it a month before I bought Camera Zoom FX. The stock cameras for the Thunderbolt and GN are fine. I tend to use stock for everything but FX pics.

I'm testing QQplayer right now. I've used Rockplayer for nearly two years. Cuz it plays divx/xvid. Which is what I'm guessing others are calling avi. AVI is an uncompressed video format that should be supported by everything.

***Okay I tested the QQplayer. It does support divx/xvid. The menu is simple but it doesn't have a nag screen like Rockplayer. So I think I'll hang with it for a while.

I use Swiftkey X and CameraFX. Although the built in apps are excellent, I enjoy the addiitonal features these apps bring.

Other keyboards don't have enough functions for gesturing like Swype does (ctrl-c and ctrl-v for copy and paste) for example.

I use Nova launcher and I really like how the phone looks now.

Anyone using a camera replacement app, Swiftkeys, anything like that? I'm not that familiar with whats out there, and didn't know how some of those apps compared to what comes stock on the Nexus. Thanks for any advice or opinions!

I'm using SwiftKey X for my keyboard.

Re: Anyone using any 'replacement' apps? Like Swiftkeys, camera,

I am using nova launcher, it is almost exactly like the stock launcher but you can resize Widgets and it also gets rid of the search bar at the top of all the home screen pages.
I also think I am going to switch to ics browser +

Re: Anyone using any 'replacement' apps? Like Swiftkeys, camera,

I've been a die hard SwiftKeyX user for a while, but recently I've been trying out Thumb Keyboard 4. I switched for the landscape keyboard split, and for the ICS theme. It looks just like the stock keyboard.

I've been on the lookout for a video player that handles MKV, and today I came across MoboPlayer. Works perfectly.

I was using K9 email for my work mail for a while, but since ICS I have been using the stock app. Help keep a unified UI.

Dolphin Browser HD. I haven't tried the stock browser or this ICS browser, because I was so used to Dolphin I didn't want to switch. I'll check those out.
*EDIT* I installed ICS Browser Plus, and it's now my default. I hadn't enabled quick controls, but now that I have I love it.

I have been using GO SMS for what seems like forever, but the stock messaging app here is pretty great. Again, I stayed for the unified UI.

Beautiful Widgets for the clock and weather, and then Android Pro Widgets for the Calendar. I still use the stock Calendar app when I'm making changes, but I like this widget.

I'll try that player out, right now i'm using dice player which plays my 4-5gb mkv files flawlessly, something the other top 3 video players couldnt do. Doesn't seem to play well eith xvid filds tho, lags pretty bad.

Re: Anyone using any 'replacement' apps? Like Swiftkeys, camera,

I'm using SwiftkeyX. I really like the talk to text function of the standard keyboard, but the predictive text from Swiftkey can't be beat. Wish I could combine the two.

Re: Anyone using any 'replacement' apps? Like Swiftkeys, camera,

Thanks for all the options!
