Anyone using Nexus 4 on Straight Talk?

Email them. I did and they called me! Several times!

this is getting frustrated. I was on the phone for 20 min. finally got someone, he kept saying my speed is slow becasue i am in a bad area. finally he agreed to transfer me to the smartphone department so they can reset me once i told him i just renewed my acct yesterday for 3 months. after he transferred me, then i got a message saying they have an unusal high call volume, please call them back later, end call. worst customer service ever.

Yep..and when you don't get that message you will have to wait for a long time. it took me around 1hour 40 min to get someone. When I emailed them earlier I didn't get a response until like 5 days later.

Exactly why I switched to Tmobile (directly...not through Straight Talk). Haven't been throttled since, and my data speeds are about 3 times faster. Gotta love having an unlocked phone. Not happy with one provider, switch.

I am having the same issue. i used less than 2 gig last month, but was throttled for the last week or so. the morning of my new month, i tested it. got around 4mbs, I was happy that i got my normal speed back. been watching my useage no big dl since. so far for 2 days only used about 50 MB. then i noticed my speed is slow again. did a speed test and i am only getting about 0.2 mbs. this is not acceptable if i have to call them every month to reset my speed. currently on the phone with them but who knows how long will i have to wait.

only problem is t mobile coverage isn't the greatest. between data speed and coverage, i would still choose coverage over speed. plus, even w/ throttled speed, i am still able to surf, send and recieve emails. there are just too many areas that my friend att phone gets full bars, but i have none. i don't live in some country side, i live in dc metropolitan area. plus unlimited minute is also very important due to my gf is living in another state right now. i tried tmo $30 plan and i ended up paying more cause of minutes issue and voip app sucked. i guess i will just have to suck it up and deal w/ this. after them reseting my data speed, i will just have to really watch what i do. it really doesn't bother me that much as long as i can surf at a reasonable speed. i do most of my big downloads over wifi anyway. last month i went overboard becasue it was my first month so i was really testing the speed out. now i learned my lesson and will really monitor what i do.

The inconsistent throttling issue is the reason I stayed away from Straight Talk. I was going to go with T-Mobile directly, but found that Solavei was a better value for me - and they don't throttle data until 4GB. I found out about them, and the pros and cons vs other prepaid plans via an article that can be found by Googling "top 4 prepaid plans nexus 4." The article's at androidandme. Obviously, if your T-Mobile coverage isn't good, this isn't an option for you. It's still a good article covering different prepaid options. I can't believe people still sign contracts!

Disclaimer. I am a Solavei customer with my Nexus 4, and all customers can act as affiliates. If you look them up and are interested in their service I'd appreciate it if you used my affiliate link. I don't want to seem too spammy - so I am not posting it here. If you would like it please contact me via pm.

I'm happy to answer questions about service or setup for the Nexus 4 since I just went through the process.

I'm currently using my N4 with Straight Talk (AT&T). I live in SoCal, but I was visiting family in Colorado over the holidays and had my new N4 and ST SIM sent there. While in Colorado, it was great. I had usable data in places where I had no service with T-Mobile. Data was rather slow (3Mbps down was normal even with solid signal) but the coverage made it worth it. I'm back in SoCal now, and my data is still pretty slow (4-5Mbps). Before its untimely death, I saw 20Mbps on my old N4 and averaged over 15 with T-Mo. The most annoying part, though, is that AT&T's network gets congested and uselessly slow in the SAME AREAS that T-Mobile's did!

ST tells me that their SIMs can be re-activated. T-Mobile's SIMs can't, but they come with more credit than they cost to buy. Looks like I'm going to go back to T-Mobile next month and then switch to ST for a month if I'm doing any real travel, back to T-Mo, lather rinse repeat.

Also, VoIP with GrooVe IP was annoying as hell on my Exhibit 2. Bad call quality, constant dropped calls even on a solid wifi connection, phone locking up if I used the 'basic' echo canceller, etc. It works great on the N4. I'm going to chalk it up to the Exhibit's lack of processor power.

im confused now. are you on straight talk tmobile or att? if you are using t-mobile, you might as well get Solavei. You get 4GB of unthrottled data for like $50/month.

I'm on straight talk att. I tried the tmo 30 plan with 100 min before, and it didn't work out for me. bad coverage and limited min. I just signed up for another 3 months plan straight talk att, so can't switch till its over.

i have bad tmo coverage as well so im stuck with att. hopefully we see some improvements in tmo's coverage in the near future.

on the phone waited for over an hour last night and finally got it reset. will monitor usuage from now on. for anyone who don't want to go through customer service and dial directly to the tech support, you should dial 18552222355 instead. you still will have to choose option 5 then 6, but you won't have to call the regular customer service number, then wait 20 min for a rep to transfer you to the tech dept which often time have way too many people on hold and will just hang up on you. I had to try a couple times since they were too busy, but it eventually got through.

Ugg... Not liking how the last couple of pages of the thread have been going with all this ST "throttling" going on < 1GB...Ooofa!

I've been using the TMobile $30 prepaid plan for the last 2 months with my Nexus4 and at home and most places around town, the service has been pretty good. Getting really good kps with Speedtest anywhere from 10-21kps range. However, after about the first 2 weeks in December with the phone at my office, I get hardly ANY data signal in my building. Sucks ass. Really thought this was going to be the plan I'd be switching too for good, coming from VZW. However, working 8-9hrs/day for 5 days a week with hardly any data signal is a major deal breaker. Plus, I want to switch my wife off VZW too, but she is the exact opposite of me when it comes to her phone use (NEEDS unlimited talk, avg texter and average/below average data user). Me, I could care less about talking to anyone, NEED unlimited text and 5GB TMobile "throttle" is perfect.

So, I just ordered my AT&T micro SIM online a few mins ago from ST and I'm going to give it a shot next week when it arrives. I'll report back on how the TMobile vs. ST AT&T service goes.

Just hope in my area that ST doesn't "throttle" so low in data usage!

Why not use wifi at work? Most likely you will not be getting anywhere near 5GB of unthrottled data on ST At&t.

Yea, wish I only could. I work for a big company that locks down their Wifi for anything outside their internal laptops. Sucks ass... They lock down ALL social media/Youtube. Hate it..LOL.. So gotta use the phone for the good internet surfing :)

Hmm..first few days with ST ATT sim was great, but now it's rather spotty and barely works. Anyone see anything wrong in my APN settings:

APN: att.mvno
Proxy: not set
Port: 80
mmsc: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS proxy: 66.209.11.33
MMS Port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
APN type: default,supl,mms
APN protocol: IPv4

I set up my Nexus 4 two days ago with Straight Talk. I'll give the settings I got directly from Tracfone by calling 1-800-876-5753. Don't bother with the other number, if it's too full you can't even get on queue. I had to call because they screwed up the initial setup since they forgot to include the data connection. I did alter their settings a bit after testing which is why there are comments next to some fields.
Name: straight talk
APN: att.mvno
Proxy: proxy.mvno.tracfone.com ( I suggest leaving this blank. It causes speed tests to fail and leaving it as blank works just as well.)
Port: 80 (This is the tracfone default. Without it my download speed suffers)
User Name: Not set
Password: Not set
Server: Not set
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS proxy: 66.209.11.33
MMS port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Authentication type: Not set
APN type: Not set (This is the tracfone default and works fine for me. Having or not having "default, supl, mms" doesn't affect my service at all.)
APN protocol: IPv4 (IPv4/IPv6 works as well and doesn't affect my speed)
APN enable/disable: APN enabled (this is grayed out with a check mark in the box)
Bearer: Unspecified

Well, got my micro SIM card from FedEx today and went online to signup for ST AT&T now. Gonna to see tomorrow how the phone works with building penetration now at work. It should be ok, as 2 other people around me have AT&T iPhone's and have no complaints, always have data signal. Woo hoo!
Online activation only took all of about 3mins and phone turned on with a new txt msg from ST assigning me my new phone number. Changed my APN settings to what's on Page8 of this thread. So far, excellent.

The REAL test/experience will be in the next 30days to see if I get the 'ol data "throttle" here. I shouldn't, as I really don't use all that much, maybe 1.5-2 at most. Crossing my fingers all will be fine!
I'll report back as time goes on in this thread bad or good!
