Anyone with new LTE device in Chicagoland area?

Well folks I got my first taste of LTE as well! I was at U.S. Cellular field last night, in the bullpen bar. I pulled out my phone and I couldn't believe what I saw, the 4G indicator was on . I did a quick speed test and screen capture. Not the best speed but it's something..

Wow! That's great news Bearballz. My signal strength is usually so bad at the Cell, that my battery completely drains before the end of the game. I was there on Monday night and I had nothing. Couldn't even update my FB status

I was intermittently getting 4G on the UIC west campus today. I normally get zero bars so this was a pleasant surprise.

Slowly but surely we are getting everything active around here. I am not getting better service coverage at my girlfriends house and other places that i barley got coverage before now i have full 4g bars.

So has anybody been getting a good solid 4G signal? Since my 4G signal went on at the Cell it's been back to sub par 3G at home at work. I've beem using the Sensorly app and LTE is on pretty sporadically over the area mainly far west and south, with a bit of action in the northern burbs.

But sadly nothing is going on in the near west 'burbs or Oak Brook. I think Norridge on the NW side is nearest LTE area to me.

Well it's obvious they are turning on more and more towers and running tests. So it's a step in the right direction..

As long as we don't take a step back towards dropped calls and data losses I can hold out for it.

Re: Service in Chicagoland with LTE???

I think the only thing bothering me about the LTE service in Chicago is areas I was seeing LTE speeds of 15,000 + mbps a few weeks ago is now only pushing out averages of 5,000 mbps.

Two thoughts..

1. Is this Sprint still testing and powering things up so they aren't running these towers at maximum speeds?

2. More people now realize 4g LTE is active in these areas and this is already the backlash affect of devices already putting a strain on the network and causing the speeds to suffer and drop dramatically?

Sure this is still a huge step for many that were lucky to see in the hundreds for 3g speeds but I really hope this isn't the best Sprint has if the reason for these speeds is due to #2.

This is especially evident at Louis Joliet Mall off I-55 and Route 30 where over a month ago I pulled down some 30,000+mbps screenies I posted in this thread.. Went by there yesterday and pulled 4 mbps.... Same exact area I drove thru and parked at before.... :(

Do you guys think that Sprint is just testing or do you think Sprints network being overloaded already? Besides the LTE enabled Android phones there's a slew of Iphone 5 newbies out there.

Hard to say.. I hope it's Sprint testing because if they are already suffering overloads then we are in deep trouble. I would love to see the stats but I would think only a small portion of Sprint users are upgraded to LTE devices.

Does anyone know when the official LTE launch is?

Looks to be sometime this month according to s4gru.com which seems to have had the most reliable information following the Sprint Network Vision upgrade process around the country.

Seems like they're taking care of the interstates first. Guess that's as good a a way as any to test tower hand offs.

I live less than a mile south of I-294/I-80 so that makes sense that I'm picking it up at home.

Yes I agree its very obvious they are hitting the major highways and interstates first for solid coverage as you drive and then start filling in the rest of the puzzle as time goes on...

Hey all,

This morning while on my way to work, I was on the corner of Harlem and Cermak/22nd st. waiting for the light to change. I noticed on my SIII that the 4G indicator was on. So I ran a speed test and was pleasantly surprised.

Not sure if they were simply testing but the 4G inidicator was on from Harlem-Cermak/22nd street all the way to the I-294 overpass in Oak Brook and it went back to 3G. I'm starting to get excited!
