Apex notifier

Bought the pro version of Apex launcher and loving it! Installed the notifier plugin and read through the permissions which all sound legitimate. One I came across and thought about for a little is "access mail information". Does that mean any app that requires this permission or just specifically notifiers can read my emails and write emails on any email accounts that I have on this device including Gmail accounts?

I think that is needed to give you an unread email count.
