Apex switch

If I installed apex and changed the messaging apk to bak to stop duplicate messaging do I have to change it back before switching roms? Going from one apex to the other.

No you should not have to. The other rom will overwrite and you should be doing a full wipe. I never had a issue and I .bak all I don't want.

Depends. I just put apex 1.2.1 and I haven't had the double text issue so I haven't had to change it
