Phone = Moto g85 5G running on Android 15.

I'm a hearing aid user and rely upon the manufacturer's (Phonak) app to manage customised settings for different listening situations. As with all hearing aids nowadays, they are connected to your phone via Bluetooth.

There is a known issue that with my aids at least, any sound and often push notification can change the custom setting you are using back to the base program. Phonak's support page workaround (see screenshot) is quite a drastic recommendation.

I raised this in a forum for Phonak users and one or two said it wasn't the app or the aids themselves, but in fact how an Android phone manages Bluetooth behaviour. I can switch off all sound notifications for apps, but even when say a WhatsApp push notification or I when I go to use Google Wallet to pay for something it flicks from say "Restaurant" to "Automatic" (base) setting program. And the problem isn't just with streamed audio, it's using the aids in different situations (hence the programs) where hearing speech can be a lot more challenging.

Other than switching off Bluetooth once I've selected a custom program, is there any way I can work around this? There's no way I'll want switch off visual notifications and as far as I can see there's no simple turn off visual notifications for all apps with just a couple of clicks. And Bluetooth is of course required to be on all the time if I were to receive a phone call as the hearing aids are effectively work like a hands-free set.

I'm not able to go back the NHS to simply ask them to swap over to a different brand of aids.

Thanks.
Phil
