app associations?

hi AC community,

I have a family member who just recently got the att SG3 and I am interested in finding out something for her. She had an iphone 3 or 4 for years and is really liking the SG3.
Is there a way, by means of activating/enabling, or downloading of a particular app, that can allow app associations?

e.g., If someone texts me an address on my htc tbolt, and while being in the text msg app, I can hit the address and it will take me to the maps app and load the address from the txt msg.
Or if someone sends a phone # and I click it, it goes straight to the phone app to dial directly, without having to memorize or enter it into the dialer.
Similar things of this nature.

Is this a feature in the phone that she can enable, or is there a known app that can do this, or is it only copy/paste. (copy address from txt msg / paste it in maps app)?

any tips/suggestions appreciated!

Your phone should be able to do that automatically..does it not?

When someone texts you a phone number, you can either click the phone number to dial it, or hold the phone number to add it to your contacts
Same way should work with addresses, provided the sender typed the address in a correct format

If the stock messaging app doesn't do it (it should, but if it doesn't), then you can use GoSMS. This is an overall better messaging app than the one that comes with the phone with more features and themes

I myself use goSMS on my phone and agree it is a good msg app, however, if I use either stock HTC message app or goSMS (on my phone) it will take me to maps or dialer, no problems.
I was thinking that if stock Samsung msg app doesn't do this, than goSMS probably won't either on her phone, but I could be wrong.

Can you (or anyone) confirm it works on your SG3 with stock msg app or goSMS?
(I'd check if I could, though family member doesn't live nearby).

The rep at the att store told her that it's always been like this (without this feature) and samsung users are just used to copy/paste. This doesn't make sense to me in this day and age.

UPDATE: had a defective screen

She took the phone to an att store again, spoke with a rep who has an android phone (last guy was an I phone guy), he took a look at it and they noticed her screen wasn't fully responding to touch input correctly. So being in her 14 days, they swapped it out for her and she now has the ability to go straight to the dialer or maps etc.

See...who needs forums. You solved it all by yourself :D should do that when someone texts you anything the phone identified as phone number, addy or website

I've haven't (yet) had a Sammy so I myself wasn't sure.
She's pretty happy it has been resolved and she can utilize these features.
